World War Z 2: David Fincher to direct sequel starring Brad Pitt

For months, the World War Z sequel has been in limbo, being removed from Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions calendar of upcoming productions.

Finally, some good news for the zombie flick. According to Variety, things are moving forward as acclaimed director David Fincher has agreed to work on the project with Brad Pitt back to star.

The studio’s new chairman and CEO Jim Gianopulos has reportedly not officially greenlit the project, but sources tell the publication the film will likely be announced in the coming weeks.

Tentatively titled World War Z 2, the blockbuster will mark Fincher and Pitt’s fourth film together, following the critically acclaimed Seven, Fight Club, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

Since 1992's Alien 3, Fincher has remained adamantly away from sequels, but thanks to Pitt — who is also producing — has been brought on board.

The sequel was initially due to go ahead with J.A. Bayona (The Impossible) before the Spanish filmmaker decided to direct the sequel to mega-smash Jurassic World.

The first film — based on the book of the same name by Max Brooks — was directed by Quantum of Solace’s Marc Forster, and starred Mireille Enos, Peter Capaldi, and Ruth Negga. Upon release, Paramount hinted that a trilogy of films were being planned.
