According to a list of the world's most nutritious foods, one type of fish stands out from the rest due to its exceptionally high nutritional value. Ocean perch, also known as rockfish, ranks third on the list, boasting an impressive array of health benefits.

According to the list, compiled by the BBC, a 100g serving of the nutritious fish contains a mere 79 calories, yet packs a whopping 20g of protein. This deep-water fish is not only low in saturated fats but is also an excellent source of essential vitamins and minerals, including:

* Vitamin B12, essential for nerve health and red blood cell production

* Vitamin D, crucial for calcium absorption and bone health

* Phosphorus, vital for healthy bones and energy metabolism

While other fish like salmon are renowned for their omega-3 fatty acid content, ocean perch takes the crown as the ultimate health-boosting catch. If you're looking to kick-start your health journey, incorporating this fish into your diet could be an excellent starting point.

If you're looking for other highly nutritious foods, researchers have recently hailed watercress as the "healthiest vegetable on Earth" due to its exceptionally high concentration of vitamins and minerals, making it another valuable addition to a balanced diet. Leafy greens such as spinach, chard, and beet greens are all synonymous with good health, usually scoring in the 80s on the nutrient scale.

What's more, you can find the "world's healthiest snack" here and the "world's most nutritious fruit" here (both according to the BBC list).

Jennifer Di Noia, an associate professor of sociology at William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey, pointed out: "Higher-ranking foods provide more nutrients per calories."
