World's Media Go Gaga Over Royal Princess

The Cambridges and their little princess have made headlines afar afield as Thailand and Brazil - a sign that fascination with Britain's Royals - especially Kate and William - is as strong as ever.

Hundreds of reporters had jetted in to London to wait outside St Mary's Hospital and eagerly relayed live details of the big announcement back to viewers in their home countries.

Images of the baby princess and her elated parents have been beaming out from TV bulletins and news websites around the world.

#RoyalBabyGirl also began trending as Twitter users offered their own congratulations on the Duchess's second baby.

"C'est une fille!" (It’s a girl), exclaimed France’s Le Monde, which described the guessing over the baby’s due date as a "soap opera".

The New York Post declared "A princess is born" as it gave the story top billing, while Israel’s Jerusalem Post said: "Mazel Tov! Will and Kate welcome a new baby girl".

"The first picture is here!" exclaimed Germany’s Spiegel Online, which splashed on the headline "Das ist die kleine Prinzessin" (That’s the little princess) and also had its own Royal quiz.

Brazil’s O Globo website also went big on the story, declaring it "party day" in the UK and pointing out the new arrival is the UK's first princess since the Duke of York's daughter, Eugenie, in 1990.

Despite all the attention, the Washington Post said it seemed royal baby fever was a "couple of degrees lower than it was for the birth of Prince George" - but still declared the day a"joyous celebration".

In Australia, which hosted the Royal couple last year , the Sydney Morning Herald said the photos had "echoes of 1982", when Princess Diana showed off Prince William to the world on the same spot.

It also remarked on the "white shawl" and "cream baby hat" worn by the princess, as well as her mother's "yellow and white summer dress and high heels".

Colourful pictures of an unofficial 'town crier' bellowing out news of the birth featured on many sites, including the China Daily.

It paid tribute to the "die-hard royal fans dressed in patriotic Union Jack gear" that had camped outside the Lindo Wing for days, and greeted the birth with cheers and dancing.

Meanwhile, the Buenos Aires Herald appeared to have 'inside knowledge', claiming the baby had already been named Catherine (currently an outsider at 50/1 on Skybet.com).

UK newspapers have also - predictably - feasted on news of the royal birth , with the headlines on Sunday including "Sleeping Cutie and "Oh baby, It's A Girl, and "A Sister For George!"
