The world’s tallest sandcastle has been built in Germany.

A whopping 17.66 metre (57.94 feet) sand structure has been built at a festival in Binz, located on the Baltic island of Ruegen.

The skyscraper sandcastle has taken around a month to be built by a number of artists.

The previous record was also built in Germany, and stood at 16.6 metres tall, or 54 feet.

Before that, the record was held by an Indian team and stood under 15 metres. That effort took nine days to build.

The festival has been taking place in Binz, a German seaside resort, since 2010.

Despite that, the sand used to build the giant structures for the festival is actually imported from the Netherlands.

Apparently, expert sandcastle builders say it is easier to build with the Dutch sand than the local grains found in Binz.

The level of detail on the Binz sand castle is pretty incredible -- it resembles a "Game of Thrones" city, with a dragon at its foot and walls enveloping towering turrets. Several sand artists were involved in bringing it to life.

Organizer Thomas van Dungen was awarded a Guinness World Record certificate in recognition of the achievement.

The record had stood since 2017.

The festival carries on through the summer and into November.
