Cape Town - Debbie Horsfield, writer of the popular drama series Poldark, shown in South Africa on ITV Choice (DStv 123), has hinted that Ross Poldark, played by Aidan Turner, might well not be the father of Elizabeth Warleggan’s (Heida Reed) baby.
"The books are really ambiguous about it and while we may wish it to be - certainly for drama - it makes it more interesting, the book is not clear and we’re not saying at this stage either," said Horsfield.
The twist was revealed at the BFI & Radio Times Festival held in London recently as season three of the series, based on Winston Graham’s original Poldark novels, was discussed.
Horsfield went on to explain how Ross and wife Demelza (Eleanor Tomlinson) were dealing with the Elizabeth's situation, adding: "I personally feel they never have those discussions. I personally feel it’s something that they steer clear of."
At the same event, Turner, 33, also accidentally let slip that fans can expect a fourth season of Poldark, as he revealed that filming will start in September.
Season three of Poldark - which is based on books five and six from the Poldark series, The Black Moon and The Four Swans - promises an array of new characters and dark drama.

"We're thrilled to be kicking off season three with a fantastic array of new characters and a story which scales new heights of conflict, feuding, passion and drama," says Hosrfield.
Poldark S3 is scheduled to air on ITV Choice (Dstv 123) later this year.
