WWDC 2019: Apple announces details of its ‘biggest event of the year'

Apple will hold WWDC, its "biggest event of the year", in June.

Now in its 30th year, the event will be held at the McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, between 3 June and 7 June.

Apple's major event always happens on the first day, which includes a keynote at which Tim Cook and other Apple executives make a series of major announcements. The rest of the week then allows developers to get to grips with that new software and other launches.

The conference will see the launch of software updates for every one of its products: new versions of iOS, macOS, watchOS and tvOS.

As well as those software updates, Apple often uses the WWDC event as a moment to reveal the future of other products, too. This year, much of the focus is going to be on the possibility of Apple's long-promised new Mac Pro, though it's likely other announcements will be made at the same time.

It brings thousands of the most creative and dedicated developers from around the world together with over a thousand Apple engineers to learn about our latest platform innovations and to connect as a community,” said Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.

“Our developers are incredibly passionate about creating the next generation of mind-blowing experiences for the world through apps. We can’t wait to get together with them and share what’s next.”

Developers can apply for tickets from today until 20 March through Apple's special WWDC website. Developers will be told the day after applications close whether they have been successful in the ticket lottery that decides who gets tickets.
