X Factor 2016: Sam Smith snubs finalist Matt Terry

One of the most exciting parts of any X Factor final is when the finalists are join by an A-list celebrity for a jawdropping duet.

We mean, who could ever forget Alexandra Burke sobbing her heart out as she performed with actual Beyonce?

Unfortunately, the much-anticipated duet is proving to be a bit of a headache for finalist Matt Terry, who has reportedly been snubbed by his idol, Sam Smith.

According to mystery sources, bosses had always been hopeful that Sam would join Matt on stage if he were to make the final, and as Sam has been giving Matt advice offscreen, producers thought that it was a very genuine possibility.

Speaking to The Star, an insider explained: “Matt’s best performance of the whole series was singing Writing’s On The Wall. Sam loved his version so it seemed the perfect plan to put them together.

“There’s still a slim chance [Sam could join Matt on stage] but it doesn’t look like it will happen now.”

Matt previously admitted that he’d love to sing Writing’s On The Wall again, this time with Sam.

He said at the time: “To sing that song again with Sam Smith would be the dream. It would be such an honour.

“Sam messaged me afterwards saying it was unreal and how proud he was that I smashed it. To have his support is amazing.”

Before that, Matt had told The Sun that he’d been in touch with Sam and asked him for career advice.

He shared: “It’s just crazy. I had a bunch of questions to ask him about his career. It was pretty cool. He’s an artist I’ve listened to since he started and I think his career is just insane.

“He told me he’d heard me sing ‘I’ll Be There’, which he thought sounded good. He said to me to just keep doing what I’m doing.”

We’re going to keep our fingers crossed that Sam changes his mind and makes an appearance during Saturday night’s final because, let’s be honest, that will be bloomin’ epic.
