X Factor star Katie Waissel has thanked her fans for their "love, well wishes and support" after she was rushed to hospital for a suspected heart attack.

The singer shared a photo on Instagram of herself in hospital on Friday, telling her followers that she had been taken to hospital by ambulance after falling ill and praising the "amazing" and "beyond impeccable" NHS medical staff who had cared for her.

She later posted an update to let her followers know that she is now recovering at home and she thanked fans for sending her so much support to help her get through her illness.

"I am truly overwhelmed by the outpour of love, well wishes and support from you all and can't thank you enough," she wrote.

"Wednesday was indeed a scary day. I'm pleased to let you know that I am home and taking it easy. It's important to ask that as we investigate what happened and why medically, kindly try not to speculate or be afraid. I will provide more information later.

"But for now, I must listen to my body and take care of it. I've still got plenty of the good fights to fight!"

Katie added in her Stories that she now wants to take time to recover from her illness.

Katie took part in the seventh series of The X Factor in 2010, finishing in seventh place on the competition before the series was won by Matt Cardle. She went on to release a self-titled album, before going on to form band Red Velvet Lovers and later entering the Celebrity Big Brother house in 2016.

Katie now studies law and has also founded the OWHL Foundation, which works on "overseeing welfare, human rights and liberty within the creative industry sector".

The X Factor is no longer airing, with a spokesperson for ITV telling Digital Spy in July that "there are no current plans for the next series of The X Factor at this stage".
