Matt Terry was fat-shamed after performing on The X Factor last weekend (November 18).

He took to the stage to sing his new single The Thing About Love, but was soon trolled on Twitter by viewers claiming that he has gained weight.

Today (November 24), he spoke out on ITV's Lorraine about the abuse he received and how he dealt with it.

He said: "I think there was a tweet that said, 'When did Matt Terry become Fat Terry?'. I wasn't going to have it. I was like, 'Look at me, I'm normal!'

"I just wasn't going to have it. I was like, 'Do you know what? I've just had the best night. I've just seen all my old X Factor family backstage, the single has had an amazing reaction, it jumped up like 18 places on iTunes and the album went straight to number two on pre-order'.

"So I was like, no one is going to knock me down. There is nothing wrong with me."

Matt posted a video on social media after his performance on X Factor, wearing just the shirt he had on stage and his underpants.

In the clip, he defended his body image as he posed half-naked – and his fans went into meltdown.

"My fans are very loyal and are always there when I need them – I love them," he added.

Some thought Matt's stint on X Factor could potentially be awkward given his history with Simon Cowell.

After landing a deal with the music mogul's label Syco, the singer quit after less than a year.

However, the pair are still on friendly terms and shook hands following his performance on Saturday's live show.

"It's important to remember where you come from," Matt continued. "When I go back there, it's like no time has passed. Simon is lovely."

Matt reckons he's still "best mates" with his former mentor Nicole Scherzinger too.

"We go for dinners, I send her music and she'll send me videos of her dancing to my Spanish stuff," he added.

Lorraine is on ITV, weekdays at 8:30am.
