X Factor's star left 'severely unwell' in hospital after cancelling Sunderland gig

Amelia Lily ended up 'severely unwell' in hospital at the weekend and had to cancel an appearance at Sunderland Food & Drink Festival, with the X Factor star now updating fans on her condition.

Teesside performer Amelia shot to fame on the ITV talent show as as a teenager back in 2011, ending up in third place behind runner up Marcus Collins and Little Mix, who broke new ground for the programme by being the first group to win. After The X Factor ended, Amelia landed a top 5 hit with her debut single Amelia Lily, before releasing more singles like Party's Over and Shut Up (And Give Me Whatever You Got) and opening for Girls Aloud on their Ten tour in 2013.

More recently, the singer has gone down a different career path, by joining the cast of Geordie Shore, but was due back on stage on Saturday night, to entertain crowds at the Food and Drink Festival in Sunderland's Keel Square, after local acts like He Knows She Knows and Sunderland Empire Academy had performed to crowds.

However, Amelia had to pull out at the eleventh hour and was replaced by another X Factor act, Geoff Mull,. after being struck down badly by illness. Taking to her Instagram story, Amelia wrote: "Hello everyone, after a really tough week of being severely unwell, I have never felt like this in my life. I have been admitted into hospital with an underlying infection.

"I am so sorry that I won't be able to perform tomorrow evening. I love performing and am absolutely gutted I can't be there tomorrow but I know I'm in the best place."

Amelia returned to social media with an update on her condition on Sunday and wrote: "I was discharged last night and am back home, have to go back in the morning for some blood but I am on the mend. It resulted in being a kidney infection which came from a UTI that was left untreated,"
