Show bosses have already decided to bring back the initial room auditions for hopefuls and now they are said to have scrapped the audience for the Boot Camp stage of the competition.

While it’s not known where Boot Camp will take place, what this means is that the first time a contestant sings in front of an X Factor audience will be at the dreaded Six Chair Challenge stage.

A source told RadioTimes.com: “It simplifies the process.

"It makes the Six Chairs more of a moment.”

The Six Chair Challenge is not for the feint hearted and often leaves acts, and occasionally judges, in tears.

The section of the show sees each hopeful appear on stage individually to sing for their place in the next round.

After their performance, their mentor has to decide whether they warrant a place on one of the six chairs. If they do win a place that doesn’t mean they are safe.

If there are further wannabes to sing in a specific category when all the chairs are full then someone could knock one of the seated contestants off the programme. It’s pretty brutal.

This year’s X Factor judging panel is yet to be confirmed but according to the latest speculation, Nicole Scherzinger, Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh look set to be returning in place of Cheryl, Nick Grimshaw and Rita Ora. Simon Cowell is also expected to return.
