There's been another development in that Disney-20th Century Fox story, but sadly it's not making an X-Men crossover into the MCU any more likely.

Following the news that talks between the two companies had broken down – but not entirely – it's now being reported that another bidder has entered the fray.

We just want to see the X-Men (and the Fantastic Four) team up with the Avengers, dammit.

According to CNBC, Comcast is now eyeing up a proportion of 21st Century Fox – which owns the 20th Century Fox film studio – although the same monopoly fears still apply.

As Comcast currently owns NBCUniversal, a Comcast-Fox merger would likely exclude Fox's news and sport output over in the US in order to avoid breaking "antitrust" laws.

Films, though, are fair game.

It's not all bad news for Disney – the House of Mouse recently announced that it would be launching its own streaming service.

Disney big boss Bob Iger confirmed that the company will initiate a "strategic shift in the way [Disney will] distribute content".

The plan is for all Disney and Pixar films from 2019 (including Toy Story 4, the Lion King remake and Frozen 2) to appear on Disney's currently-unnamed service.

Final decisions on Star Wars and Marvel have yet to be made, but perhaps a successful deal with 21st Century Fox will make it all clearer.
