The X-Men movie franchise looks set to introduce younger, less well-developed versions of all our favourite mutant heroes as it carries along down this prequel/alternate universe path.
Comic Book Movie reports that multiple audition videos have found their way onto the web (and have since been taken down by legal people) showing actors Rarmian Newton, Paul Mescal and Alexa Swinton reading for parts.
The parts they are reading for have been given the names Colin, Sam, Shane and Marie. These are likely placeholder names but fans will recognise 'Marie' as the name Rogue gave Logan in the original X-Men trilogy (and sometimes her surname in the comics, too).
Going by that logic, the Sam could be a reference to Sam Guthrie, also known as Cannonball, who is more associated with the New Mutants than the X-Men. But we're just grasping at straws here; if only we had psychic powers and a giant machine we could plug ourselves into...
Rogue was portrayed by Anna Paquin in X-Men, X2 and The Last Stand (which is super underrated) and, although the changes to her character were controversial for some, she was so popular that fans were outraged when she was cut from Days of Future Past.
Luckily, the studio indulged us by re-releasing the film as 'The Rogue Cut', which adding pace-killing scenes where the X-Men go to rescue her so she can stand around looking worried with everyone else.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix is rumoured to be released November 2, 2018.
