X-Men spinoff The New Mutants will be 'a full-fledged' horror film

Upcoming X-Men spin-off film The New Mutants will be “a full-fledged horror movie,” according to director Josh Boone.

The filmmaker, whose previous credits include Stuck in Love and The Fault in Our Stars, revealed more details to Entertainment Weekly, stating: “We're trying to do something very, very different.”

“There are no costumes,” he continued, “there are no supervillains.”

The New Mutants will feature Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams as the character Wolfsbane alongside Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch, Split) as Mahik.

Daredevil actor Rosario Dawson is also in talks to appear in the spin-off which follows a group of teenage mutants who must learn to control their powers. If cast, she's expected to play the group's mentor, Dr. Cecilia Reyes.

Plot details are currently unknown, but the film is currently scheduled to be released April 2018.

Other upcoming X-Men projects include TV series The Gifted, as well as the second season of runaway FOX hit Legion starring Dan Stevens.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix will be the next official film in the series which is rumoured to be directed by writer Simon Kinberg.
