Xbox series X stock UK - live: Today’s restock news from Smyths, Game, Argos and more

Xbox series X stock UK - live: Today’s restock news from Smyths, Game, Argos and more

Update: The Xbox series X is now sold out at AO

Since it launched in November last year, the Xbox series X has been consistently sold out everywhere in the UK. A global shortage of microprocessors, coupled with local and international supply chain problems, has slowed production of the new console to a crawl and left shoppers wondering where to buy the new Xbox.

The cheaper and less powerful Xbox series S is more readily available to buy online, but the more advanced Xbox series X sells out within seconds of new stock appearing. Knowing when and where the Xbox will be restocked next is key to successfully getting hold of one.

If you want to know where to buy an Xbox series X in the UK today, you’ve come to the right place. Our stock tracking liveblog will update you with the latest stock drops as soon as they happen, as well as any news on predicted restock dates and milestone events.

Good morning, Xbox hunters!

Welcome to this week’s Xbox series X stock tracking liveblog, where we’ll be scouring the internet for sightings of Microsoft’s latest console.

The Xbox can appear without warning and sells out quickly, so we’re here to bring you live stock updates as they happen to give you the best chance of grabbing one.

The Xbox series X is in stock at Game right now

Monday 13 September 2021 08:19 , Steve Hogarty

You can buy the Xbox series X online at Game right now, but only through the pay-as-you-go Xbox All Access scheme.

Sign up now

With Xbox All Access, rather than pay £449 for the console in one go, you pay 24 monthly instalments of £28.99. This includes two years of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, the games subscription service allowing you to access more than 100 games on demand.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate usually costs £10.99 per month, which makes Xbox All Access slightly cheaper than buying the console and Game Pass Ultimate separately.

The scheme also requires passing a credit check with Klarna, the buy-now-pay-later service.

The Xbox series X is available in some Game stores

Monday 13 September 2021 08:28 , Steve Hogarty

Though stock is now dwindling, the Xbox series X has been available to buy at physical Game stores up and down the country since Wednesday last week.

You can check if your nearest branch has any available stock remaining by entering your postcode here. The same one-console-per-customer policy applies, and we’re hearing reports that the retailer is taking delivery orders for upcoming stock, so long as you make the request in person and not online.

When did Argos last restock the Xbox series X?

Monday 13 September 2021 08:54 , Steve Hogarty

Game might be the hero of the moment, but we’re expecting other retailers to receive shipments of Microsoft’s new console this week.

High on our list is Argos, which last restocked on 5 August. Argos faithfully restocks the console roughly once every four weeks, so we’re now overdue another Xbox drop.

The best way to buy an Xbox series X from Argos is through the app. Add the console to your wish list, which lets you slip the Xbox into your basket in advance for a speedy checkout when the time comes.

Does AO have the Xbox series X in stock?

Monday 13 September 2021 09:06 , Steve Hogarty

Let’s rattle through a few more retailers, and when we predict they’ll restock the Xbox.

AO last restocked the Xbox series X on the first day of September, and before that on 3 August, which puts the retailer into a nice little monthly-restocking groove.

As neat a pattern as that is, it means we’re less likely to see the Xbox restocked at AO until the beginning of October, about another two weeks away.

When did the Microsoft Store last have Xbox stock?

Monday 13 September 2021 09:54 , Steve Hogarty

You’d think the official Xbox store would be swimming in consoles, but the retailer has to fight in the mud for the console just like everybody else.

The online-only store last had the Xbox series X in stock on 7 September, and before that on 25 August when it opened up pre-orders for the limited edition Halo Infinite Xbox bundle.

When will Smyths Toys restock the Xbox?

Monday 13 September 2021 10:21 , Steve Hogarty

Smyths Toys last restocked the Xbox series X on 9 September, though it was a vanishingly teeny drop – we’d estimate fewer than ten consoles were sold before the shutters came down.

Before that on 10 August, Smyths Toys had Xbox stock available to click and collect from stores around the country.

It’s worth popping into your local branch if you’re passing by to ask about stock.

Here’s how to find a PS5 in stock

Monday 13 September 2021 10:40 , Steve Hogarty

Sony’s console is suffering under the same supply chain issues dogging every piece of electronics out there right now, so it’s about as difficult to find in stock as the Xbox series X.

To help you out, we’ve launched our PS5 stock tracking liveblog to keep you up to date with the latest news on availability of Sony’s next-generation console.

The ‘Halo Infinite’ themed Xbox is sold out everywhere

Monday 13 September 2021 10:59 , Steve Hogarty

 (Microsoft)
(Microsoft)

Both Game and the Microsoft Store have been selling pre-orders for the newly revealed, limited edition Halo Infinite themed Xbox series X bundle (£479.99, Microsoft Store). It should come as no surprise to you that this rare Xbox is also impossible to find in stock online.

The branded box celebrates 20 years of Master Chief and boasts “a custom console design imprinted with stars as seen from the surface of Zeta Halo – extending onto the fan behind a blue vent inspired by Cortana.” So far, no retailers besides Game and Microsoft’s official store have offered pre-orders.

The Halo Infinite themed Xbox series X launches 15 November.

The Xbox series X is in stock at AO in store

Monday 13 September 2021 11:52 , Steve Hogarty

AO has restocked the Xbox series X in all five of its brick-and-mortar UK stores, according to a hot tip we’ve just received.

The consoles aren’t available to buy online, but if you’re near one of the retailer’s physical outlets you can walk right in and pick up Microsoft’s new console today.

AO has five stores located in Manchester, Gatwick, Stevenage, Leeds and Liverpool.

When did Currys last restock the Xbox series X?

Monday 13 September 2021 12:20 , Alessandro Mascellino

Though not available right now, we think Currys could restock the Xbox series X as early as this week.

Why? Well, Currys has restocked only once so far in September. Before that the tech retailer had a grand total of three restocks in August, which suggests the Xbox series X could be overdue another drop.

Does this mean more stock may be available tomorrow? Follow the blog for more updates.

‘FIFA 22’ Standard Plus Edition available to pre-order at Amazon

(EA)

FIFA 22 Standard Plus Edition launches on Xbox series X on 1 October, and is available to pre-order at Amazon.

The special edition is an Amazon-exclusive version of the game, and includes an in-game digital jersey portraying the FIFA 22 Ultimate Team logos available nowhere else.

FIFA 22 introduces a number of new features to EA’s long-running sports series, including realistic ‘HyperMotion’ technology.

For more information about the game and how to pre-order it, you can read our preview here.

Does Amazon have the Xbox series X in stock?

Monday 13 September 2021 13:17 , Alessandro Mascellino

Amazon has been pretty active in restocking the Xbox series X in the past few months, with at least two restocks every month since June, though not all of them in the UK.

This month, we have already seen two restocks, one on Amazon Germany on 8 September and one on Amazon UK the following day.

However, this does not mean we won’t be seeing more in the next couple of weeks.

In fact, in both June and July, Amazon UK restocked Xbox series X right before the end of the month.

Will this be the case is September as well? We’ll keep an eye out for you.

‘Final Fantasy XIII’, ‘Craftopia’, ‘Surgeon Simulator', and more now available on Xbox Game Pass

Monday 13 September 2021 14:17 , Alessandro Mascellino

Final Fantasy XIII (Square Enix)
Final Fantasy XIII (Square Enix)

While we wait for more Xbox series X stock to drop, it is worth noticing that some pretty cool games are available on Xbox Game Pass this month.

Starting from the award-winning RPG Final Fantasy XIII, to the indie multiplayer survival action Craftopia.

Microsoft is also making available on the Xbox Game Pass a number of additional games this month.

These are Signs of the Sojourner, Surgeon Simulator, Clown Trick, Breathedge, Nuclear Throne, The Artful Escape.

Microsoft also confirmed it will be adding more games on a weekly basis, so follow the blog for more updates on this.

‘Halo Infinite' controller to be released on November 15

Monday 13 September 2021 15:17 , Alessandro Mascellino

 (Microsoft)
(Microsoft)

The Halo Infinite controller will officially come out on November 15, has so been remarkably difficult to pre-order.

The device features a matte metallic green colour inspired by Halo’s Master Chief’s armour, blue LED lights, black paddles, and a gold D-pad.

Despite limited availability for pre-orders, Game said the Halo Infinite controller could potentially be available in-store on the day of release.

Amazon is also reportedly working on restocking the controller, though it’s not sure if more will be available before November 15.

Are scalpers losing interest in the Xbox series X?

Monday 13 September 2021 16:00 , Alessandro Mascellino

 (The Independent)
(The Independent)

One of the many reasons next-generation consoles are so difficult to get hold of right now is scalping – where all of the available supply is bought up by automated bots to be resold to legitimate shoppers at inflated prices.

Now, it seems the black market for these resold consoles is cooling off. As reported by VGC, the price of a second hand PS5 dropped by 30 percent in recent months. Sony’s console was reportedly sold by scalpers for $1000 (roughly £720) during Black Friday 2020, but the current price now sits at around $700 (or £500, just £50 more than the recommended retail price).

On the other hand, the Xbox series X has had fewer restocks and so still fetches a high price on the scalping market. But with PS5 prices in freefall we think it’s only a matter of time before reselling either next-gen console is a less appealing way for scalpers to make a quick buck.

Xbox series S carbon black bundle available at Game

Monday 13 September 2021 16:17 , Alessandro Mascellino

The Xbox Series S Carbon Black bundle (GAME)
The Xbox Series S Carbon Black bundle (GAME)

It may not be as powerful as the Xbox series X, but the Xbox series S is also a great next-generation console in its own right. Better still, it’s in stock and available from most retailers.

Both the Xbox series S and series X play the same games and share many of the same features, such as Velocity architecture, DirectX ray-tracing technology, spatial sound capabilities and gaming at up to 120 frames per second.

The Xbox series S offers just 512GB of hard drive space, compared to the 1TB of storage you get with the Xbox series X. The latest games won’t look as good on the Xbox series S either, as it has a less advanced processor and runs at 1440p resolution. The Xbox series X is capable of true 4K output.

The Xbox series S is currently available at Game, either by itself or as part of a bundle featuring an additional carbon black wireless controller, hat and T-shirt.

Xbox stock trackers signing off

Monday 13 September 2021 16:59 , Alessandro Mascellino

Monday has been a bit of a slow day in terms of Xbox Series X restocks, but not too bad after all!

In fact, we did see some action, with both Game and AO selling a few consoles this morning.

Looking forward to the rest of the week, we’d recommend to keep an eye on Argos, in particular.

The retailer has not announced any upcoming restock yet, but we've not seen any stock from it since 5 August, and that possibly hints at more of them coming soon.

Join us again tomorrow to continue our hunt for one of the most elusive game consoles ever made.

Good morning, Xbox hunters

Tuesday 14 September 2021 08:32 , Alistair Charlton

Good morning and welcome back to another day of Xbox series X hunting with the IndyBest team! With stock still available via Xbox All Access at Game, plus a fresh restock at Very, we’ve a good feeling about today.

Xbox restock lands at Very

Tuesday 14 September 2021 08:35 , Alistair Charlton

Already today we are seeing fresh stock at Very. But, naturally, the website is already experiencing high demand and there is a queueing system in place. A counter refreshes every 30 seconds while you wait, but thankfully the website seems to be holding stable and the stock didn’t disappear in the blink of an eye. We’ve got our fingers crossed that plenty of Xbox series X consoles are available this time

Xbox series X stock still available at Game via Xbox All Access

Tuesday 14 September 2021 08:57 , Alistair Charlton

 (Microsoft)
(Microsoft)

Remarkably, Xbox series X stock that landed in Game yesterday via Microsoft’s Xbox All Access service is still available. Instead of buying the console out right, the Xbox series X costs £28.99 per month for 24 months. This includes the console, plus access to Game Pass Ultimate, which includes over 100 high-quality games, and EA Play.

It’s a pretty good deal and stock is available at Game for next-day delivery in the UK right now.

When did Currys PC World last have Xbox stock?

Tuesday 14 September 2021 10:01 , Alistair Charlton

Some retailers haven’t had much Xbox series X stock for quite some time, and unfortunately Currys PC World is one of them. Three restocks landed in August, but so far we have seen just one restock for September, on the morning of the 7th for just an hour.

Stock then dried up and we’ve seen nothing more since. The series X is currently listed as out of stock on the Currys PC World website, with no indication of when more stock might arrive.

As is increasingly the case, Currys PC World has the cheaper and less powerful Xbox series S in stock and available right now.

Xbox series X stock is still available at Very

Tuesday 14 September 2021 10:12 , Alistair Charlton

Have you bagged yourself an Xbox at Very yet? You’ll need to be patient – we were sat in the queue for over an hour – but the system works and, sure enough, we’ve managed to enter the checkout process on two occasions this morning.

Very’s website says how over 100 Xbox series X consoles have been purchased in the last 48 hours (and likely the last hour too, let’s be honest). So keep faith if you are sat in the queue, and try not to refresh the page. The system appears to be working.

When did John Lewis last have Xbox stock?

Tuesday 14 September 2021 10:28 , Alistair Charlton

John Lewis has been one of the worst performers when it comes to Xbox series X stock. Some consoles arrived on 22 June, then again on the 7th and 12th of July, but we have seen nothing since.

The retailer has even struggled with the Xbox series S, which is currently out of stock while being available elsewhere. Given it has been so long since John Lewis had any stock, we would suggest shoppers train their sights elsewhere and look towards Game, Very, Currys PC World, and their local Smyths store.

What is Xbox All Access?

Tuesday 14 September 2021 10:35 , Alistair Charlton

Since Game still has Xbox series X stock through Xbox All Access, here’s a quick explanation of what that is. Simply put, Xbox All Access is a way of buying an Xbox series console (X or S) via monthly payments instead of one out-right payment.

But here’s the good bit. Included in the monthly cost is access to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which itself grants access to over 100 premium games, including Halo, Minecraft, Forza and many others. On top of that, Xbox All Access customers also get EA Play, which gives you in-game rewards and access to a library of Electronic Arts games.

Xbox All Access is priced at £28.99 per month for 24 months for the Xbox series X, and is available right now from Game. The less powerful Xbox series S is £20.99 a month, also for 24 months. Both are offered with 0% finance.

How to buy a PS5 in the UK today

 (The Independent)
(The Independent)

Fancy a PlayStation 5 while waiting for Xbox series X stock to arrive? Or perhaps you’ve decided you want to switch from one console to the other? Well you’re in luck, because the IndyBest team is also working hard on our PS5 live blog, bringing you up-to-the-minute information on where to buy a PlayStation 5 in the UK right now.

Game had a huge restock this morning, 14 September, with dozens of PS5 bundles up for grabs. Argos and Very also have stock today, too. So if you fancy a PS5, head over to our live blog now.

When did Amazon last have Xbox stock?

Tuesday 14 September 2021 12:30 , Alistair Charlton

Amazon has had more Xbox series X restocks than most other retailers this year. We saw two in June, two in July, two in August (albeit in Germany and France instead of the UK), a further German restock on 8 September and a UK restock a day later.

Clearly there’s a pattern developing here with two restocks per month. But that doesn’t necessarily mean Amazon won’t have more Xbox series X stock before October, especially when three of the last four drops have been in mainland Europe.

We’re holding out for another UK Xbox restock soon. UK stock landed at the end of June and July, so the same could well happen later in September too.

Does Smyths have any Xbox stock?

Tuesday 14 September 2021 13:28 , Alistair Charlton

Smyths Toys doesn’t tend to get that many restocks, with Xbox series X consoles landing online on 8 June, 5 August and 9 September, plus a click-and-collect drop on 10 August. The drop earlier in September was particularly small, so we’re holding out hope that the next drop will be larger.

Thankfully, the Smyths website states that more Xbox series X stock is due to arrive at some point in September, so hopefully patient shoppers will have no more than a couple of weeks to wait.

How to pre-order a Nintendo Switch OLED in the UK

Tuesday 14 September 2021 14:32 , Alistair Charlton

 (The Independent)
(The Independent)

If you’re also in the market for a new Nintendo Switch OLED then you’re in luck, because we also have a complete guide for buying the new portable gaming console. Pre-orders are available now at Amazon and Game, but have already sold out at other retailers including Very, Argos and Currys PC World.

But don’t let that put you off, because The Independent’s Nintendo Switch OLED pre-order guide is regularly updated to let you know when pre-orders open and stock arrives. As a reminder, the Switch OLED goes on sale in the UK on 8 October.

How to pre-order ‘Fifa 22' for Xbox series X

Tuesday 14 September 2021 16:31 , Alistair Charlton

 (EA)
(EA)

Get ready, football fans. The next installment of the Fifa video game, called Fifa 22, can be pre-ordered right now ahead of its release on 1 October. As well as the Xbox Series S and X, Fifa 22 can be played on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PS5, and the Steam and Google Stadia streaming services.

There are two versions of the game, called standard edition and ultimate edition. Pre-ordering the standard edition means you can start playing on the global release date of 1 October, but if you pay a little extra for the ultimate edition you can kick-off your Fifa 22 career on 27 September.

Both editions of Fifa 22 can be pre-ordered right now by visiting the EA website, and the editions are also available on Amazon (from £59.99, Amazon.co.uk), Game (from £64.99, Game.co.uk), Very (from £54.99, Very.co.uk) and GameByte (from £54.95, Gamebyte.com).

Xbox live blog signing off

Tuesday 14 September 2021 17:00 , Alistair Charlton

That’s the end of another day of Xbox hunting. Did you manage to buy one from Very this morning? Or did you opt for the Xbox All Access deal from Game? Either way, we hope you secured the console you were looking for.

If not, then don’t worry because the IndyBest team will be back again tomorrow, bright and early, to live blog our way through the day. With a bit of luck, we should start to see restocks from the likes of Amazon, Smyths and Currys PC World soon.

Rise and shine, Xbox hunters

Wednesday 15 September 2021 08:22 , Steve Hogarty

Good morning, and welcome back to Wednesday’s Xbox stock tracking liveblog.

We’re continuously scanning the retail horizon for the first sign of Microsoft’s elusive next-gen console, to bring you live UK stock alerts as they happen. The moment the Xbox series X appears in stock anywhere online – you’ll be the first to know.

Where is the Xbox series X in stock right now?

Wednesday 15 September 2021 08:33 , Steve Hogarty

Following the giant restock at Very yesterday, and Game’s sold out run of Xbox All Access – the pay-as-you-go payment programme – the Xbox series X is now out of stock across the board.

We’re back to square one. But don’t fret, we’re predicting more drops later this week.

Who’s most likely to restock next?

Wednesday 15 September 2021 08:48 , Steve Hogarty

We predict that Argos is next in line for an Xbox series X restock. It’s been more than a month since the retailer last stocked the console, and Argos restocks roughly once every four weeks.

The best way to buy an Xbox series X from Argos is through the app. Add the console to your wish list in advance of it being in stock. When it’s available, you can use your wish list to slip the Xbox straight into your basket for a speedy checkout when the time comes.

Will we see an Xbox restock at Currys later today?

Wednesday 15 September 2021 08:59 , Steve Hogarty

Currys PC World is another retailer looking likely to restock the Xbox series X today or tomorrow. Previous restocking patterns suggest that Currys is overdue to receive more stock – the retailer has a good run of weekly drops before abruptly running out of consoles in mid-August, but a restock on 7 September could be an indicator that Currys is back in business.

When a drop happens, the main Currys site gets hammered with traffic, so we recommend using the app to complete your purchase.

When will Smyths Toys restock the Xbox series X?

Wednesday 15 September 2021 09:13 , Steve Hogarty

 (Microsoft)
(Microsoft)

Smyths Toys is currently sold out of the Xbox series X, but lately the retailer has been restocking the console in small numbers and in seemingly random branches of its stores around the country. If you’re passing by a store, it’s worth dropping in to ask about the Xbox – Smyths often restocks in store without listing availability online.

Alongside Game and 4gadgets, Smyths Toys is one of three retailers partnering with Microsoft to sell the console through the Xbox All Access credit programme. An alternative to paying full price for the console, Xbox All Access lets you pay for your console in monthly instalments over two years.

The Xbox series X is in stock at AO in store

Wednesday 15 September 2021 09:40 , Steve Hogarty

The console is currently listed as out of stock online, but we’ve heard whispers on the wind that AO has the Xbox series X in stock in its physical UK stores.

AO is primarily an online retailer, but has five warehouse stores strategically positioned around the country. They’re in Manchester, Gatwick, Stevenage, Leeds and Liverpool.

Could Game restock the Xbox again today?

Wednesday 15 September 2021 09:52 , Steve Hogarty

Game is currently in the midst of a thrilling PlayStation restock, which our friends over on the PS5 stock tracking liveblog are reporting on as it happens.

In recent days the videogames retailer has been one of the most reliable places to find the Xbox series X in stock. For most of last week and until yesterday evening, it’s been possible to pick up the console through the pay monthly Xbox All Access scheme. Game is now sold out of the Xbox, with no word on when new stock might arrive.

The ‘Halo Infinite’ themed Xbox is sold out everywhere

Wednesday 15 September 2021 10:09 , Steve Hogarty

 (Microsoft)
(Microsoft)

Back in August, the limited edition Halo Infinite themed Xbox series X bundle was briefly available to pre-order from both Game and the Microsoft Store. As you might expect, the mega-rare Xbox was snapped up faster than you could say Master Chief’s famous catchphrase: “Hello, I am Master Chief, how do you do?”

The branded Xbox celebrates 20 years of Halo and boasts “a custom console design imprinted with stars as seen from the surface of Zeta Halo – extending onto the fan behind a blue vent inspired by Cortana.” So far, no retailers besides Game and Microsoft’s official store have offered pre-orders.

The Halo Infinite themed Xbox series X launches 15 November.

'Sable’ coming to Game Pass in September

(Raw Fury)

Microsoft has announced the next clutch of games coming to Game Pass later in September. Notable new releases include cel-shaded, desert-biking thing Sable, as well the reality-distorting first-person puzzler Superliminal.

Subscribers will get access to all of the following titles on the Xbox series X.

  • Flynn: Son Of Crimson (15 September)

  • I Am Fish (16 September)

  • SkateBird (16 September)

  • Superliminal (16 September)

  • Aragami 2 (17 September)

  • Lost Words: Beyond The Page (23 September)

  • Sable (23 September)

  • Subnautica: Below Zero (23 September)

  • Phoenix Point (1 October)

How do you find an Xbox series X in store?

Wednesday 15 September 2021 10:49 , Steve Hogarty

We keep tabs on every online retailer at once to catch the Xbox series X the moment it appears on sale.

Keeping track of available Xbox stock in physical shops is trickier, but it can be done. We rely on tips from shoppers and reports from social media to pinpoint the next-generation console out there in the real world.

Here are some tips for finding the Xbox series X in stock in stores:

  • Argos, AO and Smyths Toys are often rumoured to have the Xbox available in stores. To a lesser extent we’ve heard of John Lewis & Partners, Currys PC World and Game restocking their shelves.

  • Plug your post code into the retailer’s online product page to check for local stock. If you can, scroll around to peek at other stores farther away from you.

  • Xbox not in stock? Don’t lose hope. Many stores don’t log returns or uncollected Xbox pre-orders back into their stock systems. Pop into your local shop in person and ask a member of staff.

What’s happening with Amazon’s Xbox series X stock?

Wednesday 15 September 2021 11:31 , Steve Hogarty

Aside from a tiny blip of a restock last Thursday – so small you’d hardly even notice it was there – Amazon has been missing the Xbox series X for months now.

The world’s largest online retailer is predicted to have new PS5 stock arriving this week, so we’re hoping that fresh Xbox stock will follow.

If you can’t wait until then, Amazon currently has the less powerful Xbox series S in stock (£249, Amazon.co.uk).

The best Xbox series X games to play right now

Wednesday 15 September 2021 13:19 , Steve Hogarty

Did you manage to grab an Xbox this week? Why not take a look at some of the best Xbox series X games to decide what to play first.

Many of the best games to play on the Xbox series X are upgraded and remastered versions of Xbox One games. But already there are some unmissable next-gen exclusives to be enjoyed, such as the spectacular looking Microsoft Flight Simulator.

The best Xbox series X accessories

Wednesday 15 September 2021 14:24 , Steve Hogarty

You might not be able to buy an Xbox series X right now, but you can still surround yourself in Xbox accessories in preparation for your console’s big debut.

 (Seagate)

The Seagate storage expansion card (£199, Amazon.co.uk) currently has 10 percent off Amazon. The solid state hard drive doubles the storage capacity of your Xbox series X, meaning you can store more games and handle the mammoth install size of games like Flight Simulator (£59.99, Very.co.uk).

Meanwhile, there’s a fiver off the Xbox elite wireless controller series 2 (£154.99, Smythstoys.com) over at Smyths Toys. This high-end, professional gaming pad costs almost half as much as an Xbox series S, and has finely tuned hair-triggers and programmable sensitivity levels.

Wednesday 15 September 2021 15:22 , Steve Hogarty

For £10.99 per month, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers can play a selection of Xbox games on their PC using Microsoft’s cloud streaming service. Argos sells giftable Game Pass cards in three month packs.

Game Pass is a Netflix-style subscription service that unlocks on-demand access to more than 100 games. Most can be downloaded, but some can be streamed online to a phone, tablet or laptop.

Thankfully, decent laptops are much easier to find than the Xbox series X. If you’re thinking of upgrading, check out our list of the best laptops in 2021.

The best TVs for gaming on Xbox series X

Wednesday 15 September 2021 16:13 , Steve Hogarty

To get the most out the Xbox series X, you’ll need a 4K television.

Many next-generation games allow you to choose between a performance mode and a graphics mode. The former downgrades the visuals slightly for smoother framerates, while the latter mode enables higher resolutions and more fancy effects at the expense of framerate.

If your TV only goes up to 1080p, you won’t be getting the most out of your new Xbox series X. To help you upgrade your set without breaking the bank, we’ve pulled together a list of the best 4K TV deals for entertainment, movies and gaming.

Xbox stock trackers, signing off

Wednesday 15 September 2021 16:58 , Steve Hogarty

It’s been a mid-week slump for Xbox stock, with a grand total of zero new drops today.

But don’t be dismayed. Every day without an Xbox brings us closer to the next big drop. We predict new stock will arrive at Currys, Argos or AO in the next few days, based on how long these three retailers tend to go between restocks.

To be the first to know when new Xbox stock pops up, be sure to join us again on the liveblog tomorrow morning.

Be safe!

Good morning Xbox hunters!

Welcome to Thursday’s Xbox series X stock tracking liveblog, where we’ll be dutifully scanning the shelves of every UK retailer to bring you live updates and alerts on available stock as soon as it appears.

Who’s predicted to have the Xbox in stock next?

Thursday 16 September 2021 08:27 , Steve Hogarty

 (Microsoft)
(Microsoft)

After a roaring start to September, the Xbox series X restocking situation has cooled off again. Yesterday’s predicted drop at Amazon failed to materialise, which means we’re now unlikely to see any fresh Xboxes appear there until next week at the earliest.

Our next best bet today is Currys. The retailer is overdue its next allocation of consoles and, unlike many online stores, has no hesitation about restocking on a Thursday.

The Xbox series X is in stock at Game

Thursday 16 September 2021 08:41 , Steve Hogarty

You can buy the Xbox series X online at Game right now, through the pay-as-you-go Xbox All Access scheme.

Sign up here.

With Xbox All Access you pay for the console in 24 monthly instalments of £28.99. This includes two years of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, the games subscription service allowing you to access more than 100 games on demand.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate usually costs £10.99 per month, which makes Xbox All Access slightly cheaper over the course of two years, versus buying the console and Game Pass Ultimate separately.

The scheme also requires passing a credit check with Klarna, the buy-now-pay-later service.

Is Xbox All Access a good deal?

Thursday 16 September 2021 09:07 , Steve Hogarty

 (Microsoft)
(Microsoft)

Game is exclusively selling the Xbox series X through the Xbox All Access scheme, but what is that exactly? Here are the deets.

Xbox All Access lets you spread the cost of the Xbox over two years. Rather than pay £449 for the console up front, you pay 24 monthly instalments of £28.99 and get access to hundreds of games (including every Microsoft-published game) thrown in for free. This is because Xbox All Access includes two years of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, the games subscription service allowing you to play a Netflix-style library of games on demand.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate costs £10.99 per month, so assuming the price of the Xbox series X or the cost of a Game Pass Ultimate subscription doesn’t fall in the next two years, Xbox All Access is good value for money. It works out as £712 worth of stuff for £695.

With Xbox All Access you can choose when to start your two year Game Pass subscription, so if you plan on gifting the Xbox series X your lucky friend or family member won’t miss out on any Game Pass time.

Will Smyths drop the Xbox series X today?

Thursday 16 September 2021 09:37 , Steve Hogarty

Where other retailers cower, Smyths Toys isn’t afraid to restock an Xbox on a Thursday. Heck, the toy shop has even restocked on a Friday afternoon, blowing all retail convention out of the water.

10 August was the last major restock at Smyths, when the retailer made the Xbox series X available to click and collect from its stores all over the country. The Xbox isn’t listed as in stock anywhere at the moment, but it’s worth checking your local store once in a while for updates.

Smyths Toys is also one of three retailers stocking the Xbox All Access programme. The console was last available to purchase through that programme on 5 August.

‘My Friend Peppa Pig’ launches 22 October on Xbox

Thursday 16 September 2021 09:57 , Steve Hogarty

Attention. You have until 22 October to find and purchase your Xbox series X.

That’s when My Friend Peppa Pig (£34.99, Game.co.uk) launches on Microsoft’s next-generation console. As Peppa’s friend you’re free to explore Potato City, go on adventures at the beach, ring Peppa’s doorbell in stunning 4K resolution, and even jump in a muddy puddle or two.

These are the retailers overdue an Xbox series X restock

Thursday 16 September 2021 10:14 , Steve Hogarty

A handful of UK retailers have been sold out of the Xbox for longer than usual. The big three in our sights are:

Argos – The retailer most recently restocked on 5 August. The best way to check out with the console is to add it to your wish list and hit the buy button from inside the Argos app. Why does this tend to work better? We don’t know, we’re not scientists.

Asda – This straggler last had the Xbox series X in stock on 25 June – 83 days ago – but since then the console has been sold out. Asda gives no indication of when it expects new stock to arrive, but it’s worth keeping an eye on the store page over the coming weeks for fresh availability.

John Lewis & Partners – New stock briefly appeared on 12 July and sold out in a very short space of time. The online retailer usually adds new items to the website in the early hours of the morning, around 7am if you fancy setting your alarm.

Can you buy the Xbox series X at CEX?

Thursday 16 September 2021 10:44 , Steve Hogarty

We don’t track the availability of the Xbox series X on auction sites or at bright red second-hand electronics stores.

Since launching last year, both the PlayStation and the Xbox have become the focus of scalpers – professional resellers who use automated bots to buy up all of the available stock before anybody else, only to resell the console at inflated prices to any shopper willing to pay over the odds. The disparity between supply and demand means that, right now, CEX will buy an Xbox series X from you for £40 more than you paid for it brand new.

It’s up to you whether you want to purchase the Xbox from a reseller, but buying a console in this way encourages more scalping, prolongs the Xbox shortage, and drives up the price of the console for legitimate buyers. We’ll have no part in that shady carry-on.

How does this stock shortage compare to PS5?

Thursday 16 September 2021 10:56 , Steve Hogarty

Sony’s console is also consistently sold out in the UK, but the situation is a little different for PlayStation fans.

The PS5 is the more popular console, but this demand is balanced out by more frequent restocks. Over on our PS5 stock tracking liveblog we’re seeing multiple stock drops a week, and sometimes several in one day.

If the fact we’re blogging about the upcoming Peppa Pig game wasn’t enough of a clue, here on the Xbox liveblog things are a little quieter. Besides Game – which has had the Xbox series X in stock through Xbox All Access since last Wednesday – we’re averaging one stock drop a week. Two if we’re lucky.

‘Halo Infinite’ launches 8 December

Thursday 16 September 2021 11:11 , Steve Hogarty

 (Microsoft)
(Microsoft)

The limited edition Halo Infinite themed Xbox series X bundle (£479.99, Microsoft Store) launches on 15 November, the intended release date for the chronically delayed Halo Infinite game. The console will come pre-installed with Halo Infinite, though you’ll be unable to actually play the game until its actual release date, which is now set for 8 December.

The branded box celebrates the series’ 20th anniversary, and sports “a design imprinted with stars as seen from the surface of Zeta Halo – extending onto the fan behind a blue vent inspired by Cortana.” Only Game and Microsoft’s official store have offered pre-orders.

Delayed for an entire year, Halo Infinite follows on from the events of previous titles, but will stand as something of a series revival for Xbox’s most recognisable mascot.

Will the Xbox be in stock in time for Black Friday?

Thursday 16 September 2021 11:31 , Steve Hogarty

Not to alarm you, but analysts predict this shortage of Xbox consoles will continue for months, if not years. There’s also a small chance that the global supply chain is in fact permanently broken, and that we are leaving behind a golden age of economic prosperity and abundance as we descend into a new Dark Ages blighted by scarcity and ruin.

Which leads us to wonder, will we be able to buy an Xbox series X on Black Friday?

Ahead of the shopping event of the year, we’ve launched our expert guide to the best Black Friday gaming deals. We’ll be updating the guide as we approach the big day to give you the best chance of picking up some bargainous gaming accessories and next-gen titles.

Where is the ‘Halo Infinite’ controller in stock?

Thursday 16 September 2021 11:48 , Steve Hogarty

 (Microsoft)
(Microsoft)

There’s a whole new limited edition elite wireless controller, themed around Master Chief’s iconic green armour. It’s gorgeous, we love it, but right now pre-orders are sold out everywhere.

To give it its full name, the Xbox elite wireless controller series 2 - Halo Infinite limited edition launches 15 November and costs £179.99 – the game’s intended release date before it slipped to 8 December – and can be pre-ordered from following places when stock is available.

We’ve got the controller on our stock tracking radar, and will alert you as soon as we spot availability.

What controller comes with the ‘Halo Infinite’ Xbox bundle?

Thursday 16 September 2021 12:04 , Steve Hogarty

Wait a second – if that shiny green pad is the Halo Infinite edition elite wireless controller, then what’s the controller that comes with the Halo Infinite Xbox series X bundle?

 (Microsoft)
(Microsoft)

Well, that’s an entirely different Halo Infinite themed controller. That’s a themed version of the standard £59 wireless controller, which is mechanically identical to a regular pad – there are no configurable triggers and adjustable thumbsticks – but has a cool and exclusive Halo Infinite design.

It cannot be bought separately to the Halo Infinite branded Xbox series X (£479.99, Microsoft Store).

Very is sending out Xbox consoles

Thursday 16 September 2021 12:44 , Steve Hogarty

We’re hearing reports that Very is now dispatching Xbox consoles bought during Tuesday’s stock drop.

If you were lucky enough to navigate your way out of the retailer’s interminable waiting room, check your inbox for an update on when to expect your new arrival.

Does ‘Deathloop’ have a release date on Xbox?

Thursday 16 September 2021 13:26 , Steve Hogarty

Deathloop launched on PS5 and PC earlier this week. Arkane’s time-bending assassination game has been met with widespread critical acclaim, but when will Deathloop launch on Xbox series X?

Not for a while yet, we’re afraid.

Sony snapped up the exclusive rights to Deathloop on console while the game was still in its development phase, meaning it won’t appear on Microsoft’s next-generation console until September 2022 at the earliest.

Curiously, since that exclusivity agreement was made Microsoft acquired Deathloop’s publisher, Bethesda, for the sum of $7.5bn. The takeover hasn’t overridden the existing exclusivity arrangement with Sony however, meaning the game will remain PS5-only for at least a year.

Turns out there are some things that $7.5bn can’t buy.

What’s the difference between Xbox series X and series S?

Thursday 16 September 2021 14:21 , Steve Hogarty

 (Microsoft)
(Microsoft)

When the Xbox series X is this scarce, maybe it’s time to reconsider whether the Xbox series S could be your next console.

Very much the Liam Hemsworth to the series X’s Chris, the cheaper Xbox can play all of the same games as the top-of-the-range Xbox series X. On the less powerful console the overall graphics quality will be dialled down. The Xbox series S also doesn’t have a disc drive, has just 512GB of storage and can only play downloaded games.

The main thing the Xbox series S has going for it is that it’s much easier to find in stock than the more popular series X. It’s also cheaper, and costs just £249 (Amazon.co.uk). We also think it looks way cooler, but maybe that’s just us.

Here are the comparison specs.

Xbox series S specs:

  • CPU: Custom Zen 2 8-core CPU

  • GPU: 4 TFLOPS, 20 CUS

  • Memory: 10GB GDDR6

  • Storage: 512GB SSD

  • Resolution: 1440p at 60fps

Xbox series X specs:

  • CPU: AMD 8-core Zen 2 @ 3.8 GHz

  • GPU: 12TFLOPS, 52 CUs @ 1.825 GHz

  • Memory: 16GB GDDR6

  • Storage: 1TB custom WD SSD, optional 1T

  • Resolution: 4K at 60fps

The best Xbox series X games to play right now

Thursday 16 September 2021 15:20 , Steve Hogarty

We’ve actually had our own Xbox series X for a while – running this stock tracking liveblog every day is an entirely selfless act – so we put together a list of the best Xbox series X games we’ve been playing in 2021.

It’s been a slow start to this console generation, with the pandemic putting the brakes on the development of a bunch of new and original next-gen games, so a lot of the best Xbox series X games right now are remasters of classics from the Xbox One era and beyond. If you’ve got your Xbox series X ordered and are looking for something to play, have a quick browse.

The best VPN for the Xbox series X

Thursday 16 September 2021 16:14 , Steve Hogarty

The Xbox series X has impeccable built-in security when playing games online, but there reasons besides security to install a VPN for the Xbox.

If you use your Xbox as your main entertainment hub, a virtual private network allows you to spoof your location and access telly shows and movies not normally available in your country, such as those found on American Netflix, which is full of amazing things they don’t want British people seeing. You can’t install a VPN directly to an Xbox series X, but you can install one on your internet router to anonymise all of the web traffic in your home in one fell swoop.

A slow VPN will hinder your online gaming, so to keep your Xbox series X running at peak performance you’ll want to make sure the VPN you choose is fast and responsive enough to avoid lag and dropouts when playing online. Check out our round-up of the best VPNs for torrenting, streaming and gaming.

Xbox stock trackers, standing down

Thursday 16 September 2021 17:09 , Steve Hogarty

That’s all from us today. Thank you for joining us on the Xbox stock tracking liveblog. No really, we mean it. You did great.

Less great is the abject lack of new stock drops to report. Setting aside the comprehensive Game restock, no other UK retailers have dared raise their head above the parapet.

This only strengthens our resolve to find more consoles and bring them to you. Will we see a rare Friday Xbox restock tomorrow? Dare we dream?

Join us again tomorrow morning to be the first to know if it happens.

Good morning, Xbox hunters!

08:14 , Steve Hogarty

Welcome to Friday’s Xbox stock tracking liveblog. Heya!

Today – as we do every day – we’re tracking every UK retailer at once for any sign of Microsoft’s elusive black cuboid, to bring you live Xbox restock updates as they happen.

If you’re on the hunt for an Xbox on this bright and sunny Friday, stick with us.

Will Currys PC World restock the Xbox series X?

08:22 , Steve Hogarty

We’re predicting a potential Xbox restock at Currys PC World this morning.

There’s an outside chance that the retailer could drop some consoles on us in the next few hours, based mostly on previous restocking patterns. Currys last had the Xbox available on 7 September, when it sold several thousand consoles shortly before 9am.

That restock came in waves, with new stock reappearing precisely every half an hour, which was a fun and not-at-all stressful way to buy consumer electronics.

The Xbox series X is in stock at Argos

(Argos)

Argos has restocked the Xbox series X at many of its branches around the country this morning.

Check now to see if your nearest store has the console in stock.

Will Amazon restock the Xbox today?

08:58 , Steve Hogarty

Amazon treated us to a tiny restock last Thursday. This was both the first time the retail giant had restocked in the UK in almost two months, and the first time it restocked later in the week than a Wednesday.

This revelation tipped everything we know about how Amazon restocks the Xbox on its head. Now anything is possible: a mid-morning Friday restock? A drop on a Sunday night at 2am?

Amazon currently has the less powerful Xbox series S in stock (£249, Amazon.co.uk).

Does AO have the Xbox series X in stock?

09:30 , Steve Hogarty

You might not think you have anything in common with AO, the Bolton-based electrical retailer, but you do: neither of you have an Xbox series X.

AO last restocked the Xbox on 1 September, and before that on 3 August, which puts the retailer into a nice and predictable monthly-restocking pattern.

As neat a pattern as that is, it means we’re less likely to see the Xbox restocked at AO until the beginning of October, two weeks from now.

Did you know that AO is short for Appliances Online? Well now you do.

Could Game restock the Xbox today?

09:49 , Steve Hogarty

 (Microsoft)
(Microsoft)

For whatever reason, not many retailers restock consoles on a Friday, but Game regularly bucks this trend with surprise late-week Xbox drops.

The retailer has had Microsoft’s console available through Xbox All Access almost every day since Wednesday last week, as well as stock available to buy in stores around the country. The last online restock was on 25 August, when Game sold pre-orders of the Halo Infinite limited edition Xbox series X bundle.

To date, Game is the only retailer besides the official Microsoft Store to sell pre-orders of the starry, Halo themed console and controller.

Is the Xbox series X in stock at Very?

10:10 , Steve Hogarty

How out of stock is the Xbox at Very? Very. It is very out of stock.

Very restocked the Xbox series X earlier this week on Tuesday, 14 September.

The retailer has restocked the Xbox roughly once every four weeks for the last three months, and always on a Tuesday or a Wednesday. Based on this pattern, we forecast another drop at Very on 12 October or 19 October.

We know, right? That’s ages away.

Is the Xbox in stock at Asda?

10:31 , Steve Hogarty

Whereas Tesco appears to have given up on restocking the Xbox series X entirely, Asda still occasionally receives stock of Microsoft’s new console.

The retailer is currently in the midst of one of the longest dry spells on record however. It’s now been 84 days since Asda last had stock.

The retailer restocks so sporadically that it’s difficult to predict when the Xbox might crop up there again. But don’t worry: we track every UK retailer, regardless of how often they drop.

Want a Nintendo Switch instead?

10:50 , Steve Hogarty

Tired of searching for an Xbox series X? Then why not succumb to the warm and welcoming embrace of Nintendo?

The Nintendo Switch (£249.99, Very.co.uk) is the best console the company’s ever made, and it’s currently got £20 off at Very.

Nintendo recently announced a new version of the console too, called the Nintendo Switch OLED. It’s currently in stock at the Nintendo Store, head on over to our restock guide to find out how to pre-order it.

Where to find the Xbox series X in store

11:45 , Steve Hogarty

Our Xbox stock tracking tools are able to spot the console the instant it appears on sale anywhere online.

Keeping track of the Xbox series X in physical stores around the country is trickier, but can be done – we use helpful tips from readers as well as reports from social media to keep tabs on what’s happening our there in the real world.

Here are some tips for finding the Xbox series X in store this weekend.

  • The retailers most often rumoured to have in-store stock are Argos and Smyths Toys. To a lesser extent, we’ve heard of John Lewis & Partners, Currys PC World and Game having physical stock.

  • Enter your postcode on the retailer’s online product page to check for local stock. If you can, scroll around to peek at other stores further away from you.

  • Many stores don’t log returned or uncollected Xbox pre-orders back into their stock systems, so the console can appear out of stock when it isn’t. Pop into your local shop in person and ask a member of staff.

When is the ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ release date on Xbox series X?

12:30 , Steve Hogarty

Cyberpunk 2077 is available now on PS4, Xbox One, PC and Stadia (CD Projekt Red)
Cyberpunk 2077 is available now on PS4, Xbox One, PC and Stadia (CD Projekt Red)

If you’re trying to upgrade your Xbox in time for the next-generation version of Cyberpunk 2077, you’ve got plenty of time to find Microsoft’s console in stock.

As reported by VGC, developer CD Projekt Red has suggested the Xbox series X Cyberpunk 2077 upgrade could slip into next year.

The dystopian RPG launched in September of 2020, but was so buggy and prone to crashing that it was effectively unplayable. Cyberpunk 2077 was so broken in fact that Sony removed the game from sale until some of the most heinous glitches could be fixed.

CD Projekt Red’s game is in a much better state now, but this recent Cyberpunk 2077 release date news suggests we could be waiting a little longer to dive back into a more polished, next-generation version of the developer’s blockbuster RPG.

The Xbox series X is in stock at AO

13:16 , Steve Hogarty

Buy now

AO is selling the Xbox series X as part of a bundle costing £614.

Here’s what you get.

  • Xbox series X console – £449

  • A twin charging dock – £20

  • A Turtle Beach gaming headset – £77

  • A red wireless controller – £55

That adds up to £601.

Will Xbox supply issues get worse before they get better?

14:24 , Steve Hogarty

These Xbox shortages look set to last well into next year, and potentially even beyond.

The global supply chain has become all gummed up – to use the technical term – with microchip shortages affecting everything from electric toothbrushes and next-generation consoles to smartphones, laptops and cars.

Far from being over, analysts reckon the semiconductor shortfall might not be fixed until 2023. As demand starts to return and pandemic savings are directed towards high-value electronics, the limited worldwide supply of Xbox consoles will be squeezed even more as we approach Black Friday and Christmas.

We’ve launched our Black Friday deals guide early to give you the best chance of picking up a great gaming bargain during this year’s sale.

The Xbox series X headsets to look out for

14:27 , Steve Hogarty

The Xbox series X doesn’t come a headset, but it’s compatible with all existing headsets for the Xbox One. The Xbox wireless controller (£49.99, Currys.co.uk) also has a 3.5mm headphone jack, so you can plug in your regular headphones to have game audio piped directly into your ears, which is ideal for gaming after bedtime, or if you’re sharing a room with somebody you don’t want to disturb.

If you need to upgrade or you don’t have your own headset yet, Microsoft sells the wireless Xbox series X headset separately (£89.99, Game.co.uk). Lots of third-party manufacturers make Xbox compatible headsets too. We’ve rounded up the best gaming headsets you can buy today.

Listen up! These gaming headsets will give you crystal-clear audio and chat

Cloud gaming is coming to Xbox One

15:21 , Steve Hogarty

This might take the edge off not being able to find the Xbox series X in stock: you’ll soon be able to play the newest Xbox series X games on any Xbox, old or new, which sort of erodes the very concept of a next-generation console when you think about it.

Previously only available on PC, tablets and phones, Xbox Cloud Gaming streams games directly from Microsoft’s servers without downloads or installation. You can jump straight into AAA games just as easily as you can press play on a YouTube video.

You’ll need a fast internet connection and membership to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate (£32.99, Argos.co.uk), which unlocks on-demand access to more than 100 games.

This also enables Xbox gaming on any Windows laptop. In the market for a new one? We’ve rounded up the best laptops of 2021.

Where is the Xbox series S in stock?

16:18 , Steve Hogarty

 (Microsoft)
(Microsoft)

The Xbox series S is the less powerful version of the Xbox series X, but it’s still a brilliant games machine. One huge advantage it has over its more advanced sibling is that you can actually buy one.

The Xbox series S is fully backwards compatible and runs all of the same next-generation games, but sometimes at lower resolutions and with some of the graphics options dialled down or switched off. It has half the storage space and doesn’t have a disc drive, so you can’t play your physical games collection, only the games that you download.

For that reason the Xbox series X is considered by purists to be the “true” next-generation Xbox, and so the more powerful console is in much higher demand. This means it’s relatively easy to find the Xbox series S in stock online. Here are a few spots you can pick one up today.

Xbox stock trackers, signing off

16:32 , Steve Hogarty

That’s all from us for today. We hope you managed to bag yourself an Xbox series X during what’s turned out to be one of the busiest weeks for restocks we’ve seen in recent memory. Let’s recap and hand out some awards.

Our gold star goes to Game, which has repeatedly restocked Xbox All Access – the pay monthly scheme – almost every day since Wednesday of last week. If we can leave you with some parting advice for the weekend, keep checking the retailer’s Xbox All Access page for more availability. Game doesn’t announce new stock when it comes in.

Our silver star goes to AO, which restocked the Xbox series X as part of a rather expensive bundle earlier today. If you were in the market for the accessories they were selling, then you were laughing all the way to the Xbox dashboard.

And bronze goes to Argos, which had the Xbox series X available to purchase in certain physical branches around the country this morning. Great news if you were from Orpington, not so great if you live on the Isle of Skye.

If you missed out, don’t worry. Join us on the Xbox stock tracking liveblog next week, where we’ll be doing it all over again.

Bye bye!
