Xena star Lucy Lawless has clashed swords with Hercules actor Kevin Sorbo, labelling him a “peanut” after he made a baseless assertion that the Capitol Hill rioters could be from the Left and “didn’t look like patriots”.

Sorbo, 62, had tweeted that “history was being made” as Trump supporters stormed the Capitol to stop Joe Biden being elected. The siege ultimately swayed Republicans to withdraw their objections to vote counting in crucial states.

The violence left five dead, including police officer Brian Sicknick, and US air force veteran Ashli Babbitt, who was shot by police.

After the violence, the OC actor quickly backtracked on Twitter, but appeared to repeat a far-right conspiracy theory that the rioters were in fact “Antifa” in disguise.

Retweeting a picture of bearded men walking through the halls of the Capitol carrying Trump 2020 flags claiming the attackers were “leftist agitators,” Sorbo added his own comment: “They don’t look like patriots to me...”

The Xena: Warrior Princess star, replied: “No, Peanut. They are not Patriots. They are your flying monkeys, homegrown terrorists, QAnon actors. They are the douchebags that go out and do the evil bidding of people like you who like to wind them up like toys and let them do their worst. #keepingYourFilthyHandsclean #enabler.”

Sorbo played the title character on “Hercules: The Legendary Journeys,” which also featured Lawless as Xena and eventually led to the “Xena: Warrior Princess” spinoff.

Xena fans backed Lawless as her name began trending on Twitter. They also posted gifs of the Warrior Princess slapping Hercules in a scene from the 90s show.

Some Sorbo fans were also left feeling a little disappointed in the actor’s comments.

The clash came as Donald Trump decried the “heinous attack” on the US Capital by his supporters after he was accused of inciting violence.

The US President, back on Twitter after a suspension, committed to an "orderly" transition of power, a day after his supporters stormed Congress sparking global condemnation.

Mr Trump spoke as Democrats including House Speaker Nanci Pelosi demanded that he be removed from office - just 13 days before he is set to step down as US leader.

In remarks widely seen as his first public acknowledgement of his defeat to Joe Biden in November’s presidential election, Mr Trump said: "My focus now turns to ensuring a smooth, orderly and seamless transition of power.

“This moment calls for healing and reconciliation."
