‘S****y lie’: Eddie Van Halen’s son condemns claims he could replace his late father in band

Wolfgang Van Halen, the son of the late Van Halen founder Eddie Van Halen, has condemned false rumours that he is set to replace his father as the band’s lead guitarist.

Eddie Van Halen died on 6 October at the age of 65, following a long battle with cancer.

Today (26 October), his son used social media to address the unsubstantiated claim made on a Wolfgang Van Halen Facebook fan page that he was set to take his father’s role in a re-imagined Van Halen line-up.

Van Halen has served as the band’s bassist and backing vocalist since 2006. Van Halen’s uncle (and brother of Eddie) Alex Van Halen has also served as the band’s drummer since its formation in 1972.

The Facebook post alleged that there is “a good strong possibility” that Van Halen would be stepping into his father’s former position as lead guitarist.

It was also claimed that former Van Halen singer Sammy Hagar would replace current vocalist David Lee Roth, with former bass player Michael Anthony taking the younger van Halen’s role.

Though it was claimed that the information came from “the VH camp”, Wolfgang Van Halen dismissed the rumour as “a s****y lie”.

“This is just a s****y lie attempting to capitalize on these awful times,” he tweeted. “Please stop with this.”

“Anyone peddling this s*** is not only hurting the fans, but hurting me and my family,” he added.
