No need to cry for the have-yachts this summer, as the world’s super rich, hit by falling stock markets in 2016, have become wealthier again over the past year.

The numbers of the world’s ultra-high net worth, whose assets are worth more than $30 million (£24 million), reached 226,450 according to Wealth-X, a data provider. That figure is a 3.5% increase on 2016’s numbers.

The global super-rich have a combined net wealth of $27 trillion, a figure which is expected to rise to $35.7 trillion by 2021.

If you want to avoid such people, stay away from New York, which remains the city where most of the super-rich flock, with almost 8500 ultra-high net worths living there.

London is Europe’s centre of wealth, but Hong Kong and Tokyo are home to more high rollers.
