Yahoo News Explains: Everything we know about the suspicious packages

Suspected explosive devices and pipe bombs were sent by mail to several high-profile people and CNN this week.

Cesar Sayoc, 56, was arrested in Florida in connection with what has been called a nationwide bombing attempt.

“A suspect is in custody,” said Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

Suspicious packages reportedly containing pipe bombs were sent to or attempted to be sent to:

  • Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton

  • Former President Barack Obama

  • Liberal financier George Soros

  • California Rep. Maxine Waters

  • Former Attorney General Eric Holder

  • CNN offices, addressed to former CIA director John Brennan, who is actually a commentator at MSNBC

  • Actor Robert De Niro

  • Former Vice President Joe Biden

  • New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker

  • Former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper

  • Democratic donor Tom Steyer

  • California Sen. Kamala Harris

Former President Bill Clinton commended the Secret Service for its efforts.

Many have noted that everyone on the list has been an outspoken critic of President Trump. The president strongly condemned the attacks.

“Any acts or threats of political violence are an attack on our democracy itself. No nation can succeed that tolerates violence or the threat of violence as a method of political intimidation, coercion or control,” he said at a Wisconsin rally.

Thankfully, no one was hurt in what officials are calling attempted acts of terrorism.

CNN President Jeff Zucker criticized Trump, saying, “There is a total and complete lack of understanding at the White House about the seriousness of their continued attacks on the media.”

The probe is continuing, and Trump has promised to make the investigation “the highest priority for the FBI.”
