Yardie trailer: Idris Elba's directorial debut adapts a cult crime novel

Idris Elba's directorial debut is set to hit cinemas after debuting at this year's Sundance Film Festival.

Yardie adapts the cult novel by Jamaican-born British writer Victor Headley, published in 1992, which managed to sell 12,000 copies on word of mouth alone, produced on a desktop computer and sold at clothing shops, hairdressers, and even outside of nightclubs.

The film centres on a young Jamaican man named D (Aml Ameen), who has never been able to come to terms with the murder of his older brother, committed when he was a child.

Working his way up to become the right-hand man of crime lord and music producer King Fox (Sheldon Shepherd), D is sent to London, where he reconnects with his childhood sweetheart (Shantol Jackson), and the daughter he's not seen since she was a baby.

Right when a path out of his life of crime seems to open up before him, he suddenly crosses paths with the man who killed his brother, catapulting him toward a bloody quest for revenge.
