Before we all start rockin' around the Christmas tree, we have to stock up on pressies and goodies galore.

And retailers, year on year, try and out-do one another with their window displays in a bid to lure us in to the confines of their product-laden stores.

And this year's are no exception.

So far already, there's been Selfridges causing a big festive stir by being the first department store in the world to unveil their Christmas windows - a whole 69 days before the Big Day (December 25, of course.)

Selfridges stores across the UK now feature more than 85,000 baubles, 200 Christmas trees and 65,000 pieces of paper confetti released from cannons as part of its “Selfridges Rocks Christmas” theme.

Each window has taken an element of a well-known Christmas story or fairy tale, such as Rapunzel or Cinderella, and has given it a modern twist.

Meanwhile on Knightsbridge's Brompton Road, Harrods has unveiled its offering for 2019.

The notorious store, which was founded in 1849, has transformed itself into an emporium of magic, under its theme for this year: 'The Kingdom of Christmas.'

Commenting on the display, Harrods's Creative Visual Director, Alex Wells-Greco, said: "When drawing this creative concept together, I was inspired by the fantasy worlds dreamt up by childrens’ writers such as Philip Pullman, particularly the use of animals as figures of magic and escapism. Our Kingdom of Christmas has been realised through a series of wintry scenes, with festive animals helping Harrods and our brands in delivering seasonal gifts to children of all ages."

Just a few miles across town, Harvey Nichols has also revealed its display, which has taken inspiration from home of all things cosy and Hygge, Scandinavia.

The much-anticipated window display across all Harvey Nichols stores in the UK and Ireland is a fusion of Scandi-architectural influence, with handcrafted cedar slat panels, draped with festive garlands, framing the windows and glowing like the Nordic night sky.
