While the county is drenched in sunshine today - with similar weather expected on Tuesday and Wednesday - the Met Office is warning of severe thunderstorms arriving on Thursday (August 1) including "torrential" rain. They have issued a Yellow warning that covers much of England and parts of Wales.

Every day from now until next Tuesday - August 6 - is expected to see temperatures above 20C, with highs of 29C today and on Wednesday (July 31). But while Thursday's temperatures will remain in the mid-20s, the skies aren't expected to stay so blue.

The warning, which will be in force throughout Thursday, said: "Heavy showers and thunderstorms are likely to break out across parts of England and Wales on Thursday afternoon. The exact location of showers is still uncertain and some places will stay dry all day.

"However, where the showers do occur they could be torrential, with the additional hazards of lightning, hail and gusty winds. The heaviest showers could result in 20-30mm within an hour, with 24 hour accumulations possibly reaching as much as 70-90 mm where multiple showers affect the same location."

People in areas at risk of flash floods are advised to be ready and there could also be gusty winds. The Met Office said: "Ensure moveable objects or temporary structures are well secured.

"Items include bins, garden furniture, trampolines, tents, gazebos, sheds, and fences. Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary."

There's also a risk of power cuts. People are advised to avoid being caught on high ground and warned not to seek shelter under trees during storms. The Met Office added: "Be prepared for weather warnings to change quickly - when a weather warning is issued, the Met Office recommends staying up to date with the weather forecast in your area."
