Sophie Thatcher's "serious" drive to make movies cost her some friendships, it's been revealed.

A breakout star of the cannibal thriller series Yellowjackets - she plays the teenage counterpart to Juliette Lewis' Natalie Scatorccio - Thatcher made her big screen debut five years ago in Pedro Pascal's indie space flick Prospect.

But it's this summer's Stephen King adaptation The Boogeyman that could really send her stratospheric.

Promoting the new horror, Thatcher told NME that she's been "all about the art" since the age of 12.

"I'm unlucky enough that I can look through old email chains and see that I got into fights and lost some friends over being too serious about making it in movies," the actress admitted.

"I was just very, very invested."

Such is Thatcher's obsession with success - and she's tasted plenty of it, appearing in three episodes of Disney+'s Star Wars show The Book of Boba Fett too - the 22 year old considers every single audition to be "life or death".

"[The drive] hasn't left yet and I don't think it ever will. It's definitely still there and boiling inside very intentionally."

As for the second season of Yellowjackets, Yahoo Entertainment UK ranked it a swaggering return to our screens earlier this year.

"That comes down to the cast who are universally excellent throughout, illustrating the harrowing effect of their prolonged isolation from society, and continuing to explore that time in detail as more and more puzzle pieces fall into place," wrote Martin Carr in his review.

"Beyond those performances though, when the all-important moment of true revelation comes, Yellowjackets makes sure to combine the reveal with a dramatically serrated edge."

The Boogeyman arrives in UK cinemas on 3 June.
