Yellowstone season 5 finale sets new series record

Yellowstone's season 5B finale has scored the highest ratings in the show's history.

Deadline reports that the final episode brought in 11.4 million viewers last Sunday night (December 15) across Paramount Network and CMT.

That number then rose to 13.1 million total viewers when the Live+3 number was released, with 13.6 million average viewers.

The 5A finale, which aired on January 1 2023, had 10.3 million Live + Same Day viewers.

Season five part two of Yellowstone saw the return of Kevin Costner as John Dutton, ahead of his exit from the show.

Costner announced he was leaving the series back in June, telling fans on Instagram: "I just realised that I'm not going to be able to continue season 5B or into the future.

"It was something that really changed me. I loved it, and I know you loved it. And I just wanted to let you know that I won't be returning. And I love the relationship that we've been able to develop, and I'll see you at the movies."

Following Costner's exit it was thought that season five would be Yellowstone's last. However, fans were given hope in August when it was reported that negotiations were underway for a sixth season.

While we may have seen the last of Yellowstone, the Taylor Sheridan series already has two spin-offs, 1883 and 1923, with a third being announced earlier this year.

The Madison is set to star Michelle Pfeiffer and Suits actor Patrick J Adams.

It follows a New York City family in the Madison River valley of central Montana, with the logline describing it as "a heartfelt study of grief and human connection".
