Yeovil Literary Festival returns with star-studded lineup including Ian Rankin
The Yeovil Literary Festival is almost here – and it’s going to be bigger and better than ever! We’re kicking things off early with a special pre-festival event on 10th October, featuring none other than Sir Ian Rankin.
The multimillion-copy bestselling author and creator of John Rebus will be joining us to unveil his latest Rebus novel. It’s the perfect treat for crime fiction fans.
On 18th and 19th October, Yeovil Library will also host a range of brilliant events to get you in the festival spirit before the main programme launches on Thursday 24th October. And if that wasn’t enough, we’ve got two incredible last-minute additions to the line-up.

On Sunday, 27th October, don’t miss the chance to see David Walliams, the number one bestselling author who has transformed children’s reading. With over 59 million books sold worldwide, David is a literary sensation. He’ll be talking about his brand-new book, Super Sleuth – a murder mystery like no other, packed with thrills, spills, and laughs galore. Set aboard a 1920s luxury ocean liner and beautifully illustrated by the talented Adam Stower. Whether you’re a fan of his books, his appearances on Britain’s Got Talent, or the comedy classic Little Britain, David’s debut at the festival promises to be a delight!
Then, on Monday, 28th October, get ready for the one and only Julian Clary! The nation’s much-loved comedian, actor, and author will reveal all about his new mystery novel, A Curtain Call to Murder. With a cast full of quirky suspects, a thrilling murder on stage, and a backstage drama at the London Palladium, this is sure to be a wickedly entertaining evening. Can dresser Jayne unravel the mystery? Can she step out of the wings and identify the killer before it’s too late? Or will murder make an encore? Julian’s sharp wit and storytelling prowess are sure to keep you hooked.
Julian has toured across the world with his one-man shows. His first book for children, The Bolds, about family of hyenas living undercover in Surbiton, was published in 2015. He subsequently released six further instalments to the hugely popular series. The Bolds was adapted for stage by Clary; and had its debut at the Unicorn Theatre. He has been delighted audiences each Christmas in the London Palladium pantomime. Having spent so much time backstage at the world’s most famous theatre obviously provided inspiration for his new mystery novel and we cannot wait to find out more.
With events already starting to sell out, now’s the time to secure your tickets! This is our biggest festival yet, and with so many exciting events on offer, there’s something for everyone, no matter what genre you love.
