A popular bar and restaurant in Yeovil is retiring its tapas dishes in favour of a Mexican and Latin American menu. Kazbar, which has served tapas for more than a decade, will be making the transformation at the end of this month.

Owner Matt, 37, says the change was driven by his customers' enthusiasm for Mexican food and him and his staff's love of travelling: "Ten years is a long time to do tapas and over the years we've had a lot of people requesting we do Mexican food. With tapas we do world fusion anyway, and sometimes we did play around with Mexican flavours which were always very popular.

"Me and my staff love travelling and we all have an interest in Mexican food."

Matt also felt there was a crucial gap in the market as there are no other Mexican restaurants in Yeovil. To celebrate Kazbar's new direction, Matt will be redecorating the restaurant and holding a Tacos and Tequila night on Wednesday, October 30.

On Friday, November 1, festivities will continue with a Day of the Dead party which costs £5 per person and includes a free shot of tequila. Day of the Dead is a Mexican tradition which involves honouring your ancestors and people who are no longer with us.

Mexican cuisine is sometimes associated with spiciness- but what if you have more delicate tastebuds? Matt said: "Mexican food has a reputation for being spicy but a lot of the flavours are very subtle. For instance, chipotle is more smoky than hot."

He continued: "For people who do like heat, we have two types of chilli sauce on the table for you to add if you do want it extra spicy. We're catering for all palettes."

The new menu will include cheesy beer and chorizo chimichangas, shredded beef tacos, and more. In the pudding section, customers with a sweet tooth can look forward to homemade churros with chocolate sauce.

While tapas will no longer be available, there are 'small plates' being served that Matt thinks will fill the hole tapas left in customers' hearts and stomachs.

Kazbar serves food from 5pm to 9pm on Wednesday and Thursday, and from noon to 10pm on Friday and Saturday. A different deal is on offer everyday: for example, on Wednesday you buy a beer and burrito for £10.
