Yet Another Ride Breaks Down At Alton Towers As Air Rollercoaster Leaves Thrillseekers Dangling

Alton Towers has been hit with yet another ride malfunction after the Air rollercoaster left people hanging upside down in the blistering heat.

Thrillseekers were trapped on the ride on the hottest day of the year as they waited for rescue from inside the carriages.

Dozens of visitors to the theme park were hanging upside down for around 20 minutes before they managed to get off the ride.

And two monorails left another 80 people stranding in hot carriages for more than an hour after they came to a halt mid-ride.

Guests were eventually walked off via the evacuation walkways.

An Alton Towers spokesman said: “The train drivers kept guests informed via the on board PA system and refreshments were provided.”

The spokesman added that those stuck on the Air ride were rescued “within standard operating procedures”.

Those stuck on board the rides tweeted about the heat while they waited to be rescued.

Leanne Rudd wrote: “We’re currently stuck on the monorail melting. Can you please let us out? #sweating #needaircon”

Others tweeted pictures of Air riders left stranded.

The latest incidents come just weeks after 16 people were injured when two carriages on the Smiler rollercoaster collided.

Four people were seriously injured - including 20-year-old Vicky Balch and 17-year-old Leah Washington, who both had legs amputated following the crash.

No injuries were reported in the two latest incidents and the monorail is set to re-open today.

Alton Towers lost £500,000 a day while it was closed following the Smiler incident and park bosses have vowed to introduce stricter safety procedures.
