York Christmas Market has been crowned the most popular and most-searched for in the UK.

The annual attraction, which is held at 4-6 Parliament St, is already operational and will run until December 22. And now it has been hailed as the best place to go for some festive shopping and cheer across the country - even beating Edinburgh and London's Hyde Park Winter Wonderland.

Research conducted by Italian restaurant Lucia, based in York and Beverley, revealed that when compared to other Christmas markets York Christmas Market came out on top with an average of 90,500 monthly searches. This was followed by Edinburgh with 74,000 and London's Hyde Park with 60,500.

Lucia analysed more than 300 keywords relating to Christmas markets including ‘Christmas markets near me’, and ‘best Christmas markets’ revealing that searches have risen by 68 per cent in the UK from 2021 to 2023. They also found that searches for Christmas markets in Yorkshire and the Humber have risen by 50 per cent from 2021 to 2023.

Georgina Pellant from Lucia said: “York’s Christmas market topping the list as the most searched for in the UK shows its continued appeal to people across the country.

“It’s a testament to the unique charm and festive atmosphere that draws visitors back each year. The surge in interest underscores a broader trend, with more people actively seeking out Christmas experiences close to home.”
