The National Weather Service downgraded its blizzard warnings to a winter storm in New York City on Tuesday, March 14, but not before several inches of snow fell.
Four inches landed on Central Park and 5.9 inches at LaGuardia Airport as of 11 am, according to the National Weather Service. The snow transitioned to a mix of rain and sleet by noon in the city and surrounding areas.
Much more snow was expected in upstate New York, causing Gov. Andrew Cuomo to shut down Metro-North Service as of noon and issuing a tractor-trailer ban on several highways north of the city.
