New Yorkers queued in long lines on December 23 as the city distributed free COVID-19 rapid tests ahead of Christmas.

Cases in New York have spiked in recent weeks to record highs, driven by the highly contagious Omicron variant. On Thursday, state authorities reported 38,835 new positive results.
