New Yorkers Wake Up to Inches of Snow as Storm Hits Northeast

New Yorkers woke up to inches of snow on the morning of December 17 as the first major winter storm of the season hit the US northeast.

The National Weather Service said 6.5 inches of snow and sleet was recorded by midnight in Central Park, more than the 4.8-inch total for all of the 2019-2020 winter season.

The NWS said a mix of snow, sleet, and rain would linger through the morning before likely tapering off in the early afternoon as the storm made its way up the northeast coast.
