Nokia first introduced the iconic game Snake in 1998, and since then it appeared on more than 400 million handsets.

The game became a defining moment in mobile gaming – and the first mobile game that many people played.

Now, it’s back! The game will be bundled with the new Nokia 3310 when it launched, courtesy of new manufacturer HMD Global.

But the revamped version of the game – which starts on a grey-and-green grid which will be familiar to anyone who picked up a Nokia in the Nineties – is also available to play, free, on Facebook Messenger.

It’s available for many users now, and can be played instantly, for free, without starting a conversation.

You’ll need to have the separate Messenger app, and simply search ‘Snake’ in the search box – you’ll get an option to play the game.

If you’re chatting with a friend, you can also opt to play versus mode, simply by tapping on a game controller icon.
