Two young boys have been left with “nothing” after their clothes and toys were destroyed in a devastating house fire.

A friend of the family started a fundraiser to replace the boys’ belongings when their Redhall home went up in flames on November 7 (those wishing to support can donate here ).

The boys - aged 18 months and 10 years - were thankfully unharmed but lost all their clothes and toys in the blaze - with their mum, Abby, saying that their belongings are “completely gone.”

Abby told Edinburgh Live : “Smoke particles got into everything. All the boys’ toys downstairs are gone. Their games, football stuff, everything. The conservatory was the playroom and that’s completely gone. It’s literally just the bricks that are left. The windows have melted, everything’s gone in there.”

The fire started when the tumble dryer in the Red Hall home caught fire. Abby was able to get the boys and dog out safely but the downstairs suffered extensive damage. The upstairs rooms saw considerable smoke damage.

The family is currently hopping between loved ones’ homes until they have a more permanent living situation.

Abby said: “With Christmas coming up, we’re a bit nervous about where we’re going to be for the holidays. The insurance offered a hotel room for the four of us and our dog, which isn’t going to work.

“It hasn’t quite hit us yet. We’ve lost everything but we need to find somewhere to live.”

Abby said the family was grateful for the “overwhelming” support they had received from the community. Boys from her son’s school donated football gear and a PlayStation, their local Scotmid supplied nappies and clothes for their youngest, and a Sainsbury’s provided a school uniform for their 10-year-old.

The mum of two said the response was “so sweet” and “quite overwhelming.” She shared her emotions on the impact of the fire on her family.

Abby added: “The amount of help we’ve had from the community has helped us quite a lot. We have nothing. You don’t realise how devastating a fire can be until you’ve been through it. The main thing is we’re all safe. Even though we’ve lost everything, we’re all fine.”
