Young Sheldon fans are in no danger of losing the show, with CBS announcing in March 2021 that the series had been renewed for three more seasons. That means something to look forward to until at least 2024. Season five, currently airing on CBS, features a time jump which puts Sheldon in his second semester of college.

Kelly Kahl, president of CBS entertainment, said, “Young Sheldon dominates the broadcast comedy landscape by over +2.5 million viewers and is the lynchpin of CBS’ top-rated Thursday comedy lineup. The humor, warmth and heart exuded by the Cooper family is an undeniable hook for the millions of fans who tune in each week.”

As viewers watch Sheldon grow up in Texas and gain a deeper insight into his character, the show has brought to life events and characters mentioned in The Big Bang Theory. In particular, recent seasons have navigated Sheldon’s home life and shone a light on his parent’s marriage, relationship with his twin sister (Missy) and academic prowess.

As season five progresses, fans are already looking forward to a jam packed sixth season. So if you can’t wait, here’s everything you need to know about season six of Young Sheldon.

Luckily for us, Young Sheldon keeps to a pretty regular schedule. So we can expect to see season six on our screens between late September and early October 2022.

Young Sheldon season 6 cast: Who will be in it?

It’s no surprise that Iain Armitage will return to the titular role, Sheldon. Armitage will be joined by his TV family, Mary Cooper (Zoe Perry), George Cooper (Montana Jordan), Missy Cooper (Raegan Revord) and Meemaw (Annie Potts).

According to The Big Bang Theory, George Sr (Sheldon’s father), dies when Sheldon is 14. But if the show decides to continue on a yearly timeline, then we should see Lance Barber return to his role in season six. Wyatt McClure, who was promoted to the main cast in season five, should also return in his role as Billy Sparks, Sheldon’s neighbour and tormentor.

Finally, we can expect Jim Parsons to return in voiceover form. Season five saw Simon Helberg, Howard Wolowitz in The Big Bang Theory, guest star in an episode, to much fanfare. We could expect to see another guest star in season six.

Young Sheldon season 6 plot: What will happen?

Season five finds Sheldon at age 12 and in his second semester at college. If the chronology remains consistent, Sheldon should turn 13 in season six and enter his sophomore year.

As Kahl said, “We’re excited to see what the next three seasons have in store for a slightly older Sheldon and all the Coopers.” There should be more family drama, tough decisions to make, and more Easter eggs dropped throughout the series that reference back to Sheldon’s memories in The Big Bang Theory.

Young Sheldon season 6 trailer: when can we have a first look?

CBS have not yet released a trailer for season six but we can expect one around August 2022 if previous seasons are anything to go by.

Young Sheldon is airing on CBS with new episodes every Thursday.
