Whether you're a fan or not, cleaning is an unavoidable task.

Our homes accumulate dirt and dust on a daily basis, so it's our responsibility to keep them clean and tidy. One routine job is mopping the floor - we all have spills nearly every day, don't we?

But bear in mind, mops can get grubby and start to smell.

However, a handy hint from a social media cleaning whizz promises to rid your mop of any unpleasant odours. According to SAL Cleaning for You on Instagram, there's a clever trick to keep your mop smelling fresh.

You only need a few simple items to give your mop a thorough clean. Even better, you likely already have these ingredients at home.

The team posted a video demonstrating how they clean their mop and outlined the necessary steps.

They revealed: "How to keep mop from smelling? Use vinegar or baking soda to deodorise your mop. Vinegar is a natural deodoriser that can help eliminate unpleasant odours from your mop.

"Add one cup of white vinegar or one cup of baking soda to a bucket of hot water, and use this mixture to clean your mop head. After cleaning, rinse the mop head with plain water and hang it up to dry."

So, there you have it, keeping your mop fresh isn't as difficult as it might seem. In fact, it's pretty straightforward.

People have been praising the advice online, and were surprised they hadn't tried it sooner. It seems many are tired of their smelly mops.

One user replied: "Thanks for the info." Another remarked: "No need to buy a new mop sponge every second month just because of a smell."

A third divulged: "I also have several mop heads to use it for different parts of the home. Walls, kitchen, bathroom and store the clean ones in a gallon plastic bags with a label of what part I use it for." Elsewhere, another chimed in: "Thank you for this tip."
