You're my Walford-Wall! Oasis star Liam Gallagher loved Martine McCutcheon in EastEnders
Martine McCutcheon says her biggest fan when she was in 'EastEnders' was Liam Gallagher.
The 46-year-old actress played beloved barmaid Tiffany Mitchell from 1995 to 1998 on the BBC One soap, and her final scenes which saw her run over by a car and killed as she tried to leave husband Grant Mitchell (Ross Kemp) and flee Albert Square with their daughter Courtney were watched by 12 million viewers.
Martine looks back fondly at those years and says the 'EastEnders' cast would regularly have a drink in the famous BBC bar which would be full of music stars who had performed on 'Top of the Pops', and she can recall former Oasis singer Liam, 50, making a beeline for her to tell her how much he loved watching her as Tiffany in the show.
Speaking to OK! magazine, she said: "We’d finish filming and go into the bar for a drink afterwards and in would pop Bono from U2, Cher, Diana Ross, Oasis or Blur.
"I remember Liam Gallagher came bowling up to me and I thought, ‘What’s he going to say?’ and he said, ‘I bloody love you in the show – all the family love you!’”
Martine quit the soap to focus on her pop career at the time, and the decision to kill off Tiffany was a controversial one because the actress had told BBC producers that she would always be open for a return to Walford.
The 'Love Actually' star admits she hasn't watched 'EastEnders' for years because she can't sit down and enjoy the Albert Square drama like a normal viewer because she knows what goes on behind the scenes.
She said: "I haven't watched it in so many years because I know how it works and I keep thinking about everything behind the scenes."
