YouTube Rewind 2018 has reportedly become the second-most disliked video in the website’s history.

The eight-minute video pegs itself as a recap of "the videos, music and trends that defined YouTube in 2018” and has amassed more than 7.2 million dislikes, according to the BBC, falling just behind Justin Bieber’s Baby.

Bieber’s 2010 single remains at the number one spot, with over 9.7 million dislikes, over the course of eight years.

Fans of the site blasted the platform over the video, which features Will Smith among a number of YouTuber users, for not including some of its "biggest stars" including Logan Paul, Shane Dawson and PewDiePie, who has the most subscribed channel in the world.

PewDiePie, real name Felix Kjellberg, released a reaction video criticising how the video does not mention key moments of 2018, such as creators using the site to pay their respects for those who have died.

In the video, he said: “I remember Rewind [used to be] something that seemed like an homage to the creators that year," he says in the video. "It was something cool to be a part of.

"Now it's like I'm almost glad I'm not in it, because it's such a cringey video at this point. It's so disconnected with the community and its creators."

Youtuber Keemstar also blasted the video: “We are prepared to call it YouTube Rewind 2018 will be come the most DISLIKED YouTube video of all time. With 7 mill dislikes in 4 days the only YouTube video with more dislikes is Justin Bieber baby with 9 mill but its over 8 years old.

“Cliques have ruined rewind. All they have to do is invite youtubers that have had the most growth that year or stuck out. And don’t be tone def on the community. No reference to the @LoganPaul vs @KSIOlajidebt fight is so disrespectful to the core community.” [sic]

However, other creators praised the site for a “focused” video.

Thomas Ridgewell, known as TomSka, defended: “You know what? I liked [Youtube Rewind]. It knew that it couldn’t please everyone and ran with that. It focussed on a small handful of creators, tried it’s best to be self-aware, didn’t push any particular agenda, and didn’t overstay its welcome. I think this was a good one.”

A spokesperson for Youtube told the Standard: "Every year when we release our Rewind video, our number one goal is getting the community to engage with it. This includes liking and disliking the video. With millions of comments, millions of likes and dislikes, and more than 100M views, we’re pleased with the results.”
