It feels like hair loss is becoming more and more common, especially with some people noticing extra hair shed following a Covid-19 diagnosis.
The beauty aisles are rammed with products claiming to speed up hair growth and thicken strands instantly, but hair loss is a complex issue, and it's worth finding out exactly what's causing yours before seeking out the best treatment.
But what if you're not comfortable with having a thinning hairline or noticeable bald patch on display? YouTuber Zoe Cavey has talked openly about her hair-thinning battles, and posted a video last year in which she revealed her quick-and-easy cover-up technique.
in the video, Zoe speaks out about how "heartbroken" and "helpless" you feel when you can't do anything with your hair, revealing "the miracle product" she discovered for camouflaging exposed scalp along your parting, plus the very specific way she applies it.
"I've tried so many different shampoos and conditioners," she tells viewers, "and at best it makes me feel like my actual strands are thicker, but nothing has ever saved me from this."
The "miracle product" she's referring to is the Bumble & Bumble Brownish Hair Powder, £28, which she describes as "a dry shampoo that has a lot of colour in it."
4 simple steps to thicker-looking hair
Zoe starts by running a finger along one side of her centre parting (you can use a comb), separating off a thin section of hair which she then flicks over her original parting. She shields her forehead using her hand and sprays along the new, slightly-off-centre parting. Once the exposed scalp is covered, she flicks the section of hair back over, revealing an already thicker-looking half head of hair.
Next, she repeats this on the other side, flipping the section of hair back over once she's done to reveal her original centre parting again. Zoe says she would usually stop at this point if she was just going out for the day because "she doesn't care that much."
But, if you have a special occasion and want to do more, Zoe sprays again more lightly down her centre parting, smudging along her hairline to create a natural fade out.
She points out that the powdery matte finish doesn't look very natural, so sprays a piece of tissue with high-shine hairspray (any will do), and wipes it down both sides of her hair to add shine and take away that tell-tale matte finish.
"I'm super happy with it," she tells viewers, "and I hope this helps people with any insecurities."
