Zac Efron as serial killer Ted Bundy: First picture from Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile released

Zac Efron’s post-High School Musical career continues to fascinate, the actor’s latest role being a particular departure from the loveable leading man type.

Last year, Efron began filming Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, about America’s most notorious serial murders, Ted Bundy.

Helmed by Oscar-nominated documentary filmmaker Joe Berlinger and penned by Michael Werwie, a first-look at Efron as Bundy has been revealed on Twitter.

The actor posted the image of himself as Bundy taking a mug shot alongside the caption: “Meet Ted. #BehindTheScenes”

The film takes the perspective of Bundy’s longtime girlfriend Elizabeth Kloepfer (Lily Collins), who went years denying the accusations against Bundy before ultimately turning him in to the police.

Bundy eventually confessed to 30 homicides committed in seven states between 1974 and 1978, though the true number of his victims is still unknown and could possibly be much higher.

Alongside Efron and Collins, John Malkovich will play Edward Cowart, the presiding judge of the Bundy trial where he imposed the death sentence.

A release date for Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile has not been announced. Meanwhile, Efron currently stars in the musical The Greatest Showman which is in cinemas now.
