Yahoo News Zara McDermott announces new BBC true crime documentary
Love Island's Zara McDermott has announced a new BBC true crime documentary based on 2022's Idaho University Murders.
The reality TV star, who competed on Strictly Come Dancing last year, will present The Idaho Murders: Trial by TikTok set to air on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer soon.
In the documentary, Zara travels to the small town of Moscow in Idaho where the crime took place, exploring the social media frenzy that followed the murder of four Idaho University students: Ethan Chapin, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle and Madison Mogen.

"I’ll be investigating the social media interest around the tragic murder case of the University of Idaho students which captured the minds of many around the world," she said.
"I’m keen to find out why true crime is such a big topic online and the impact on those involved."
Like many others, Zara came across the case in question via social media with public interest growing as the police investigation ran into six weeks with no suspects, no motive, no weapon, and no signs of forced entry into the house.

"As days turned in to weeks, global interest in the case snowballed racking up nearly 2 billion views on TikTok worldwide with the harrowing case remaining unsolved," reads an official synopsis.
"From the very first reports of the crime, to the news of the arrest, Zara will see how every detail of the investigation in to their murders was turned into social media content and meet those who took it upon themselves to try and identify the killer."
Along the way, Zara will reflect on how she followed the tragedy online and delve deeper into the effect of obsessive online consumption in true crime.
Sharing the news on Instagram, Zara revealed that the documentary will be "coming next month".
The Idaho Murders: Trial by TikTok will air on BBC Three and iPlayer in March.
