Zayn Malik 'hates' being called a 'celebrity'

Zayn Malik fans listen up, the star won’t allow himself to be labelled a ‘celebrity’ because he doesn’t want to be ‘superior’ to you.

Another reason to love this guy.

Ever since leaving One Direction and going solo, the PILLOWTALK singer has been determined to prove to everyone he is a hard-working and down-to-earth lad, who wants to make a name for himself as an authentic musician. And Zayn’s latest comments seem to back up how serious he is about his goals.

The 23-year-old hunk doesn’t want to be known only for being famous and doesn’t want to be famous because people know his name. Keeping up?

To be fair, he’s notoriously private about his personal life and needs to be since he’s dating model Gigi Hadid and is one of the most talked about men in the world alongside this gorgeous lot pictured below.

Sigh.

With all that in mind, Zayn is putting his foot down and musing that the throwaway term ‘celebrity’ is not good for his soul and is dangerous because it implies he’s better than everyone else.

He told HighSnobiety magazine: “I hate the word celebrity. I think it’s a dangerous road to go down, thinking of yourself as a celebrity, because then you somehow automatically think that label makes you superior to other people. Some people just want to hang around you because they know your name … I can see through that bulls**t a mile off.”

To his fans, of course, he’s simply a hugely talented singer sprung from the biggest boyband in the world.

But his comments make us worry whether a lot of Zayn’s anxiety issues – which caused him to cancel some shows in the past year – are down to the attention his celebrity status has garnered him.
