New Zealand Politician Cycles to Hospital in Labor

New Zealand MP Julie Anne Genter cycled to hospital while she was in labor with her second child.

These images, posted on November 28, show the pregnant Green Party politician riding her bike, arriving at the car park of the hospital, and with the healthy baby.

“Big news! At 3.04 am this morning we welcomed the newest member of our family,” Julie Anne Genter announced on Facebook. “I genuinely wasn’t planning to cycle in labor, but it did end up happening,” she added.

It wasn’t Genter’s first two-wheeled trip to a maternity ward. Her party’s spokesperson for transport and an advocate for cycling, she used her bike to get to the hospital in 2018 for the induced birth to her first baby. Credit: Julie Anne Genter via Storyful
