Zion Williamson suffers freak injury as Nike shoe falls apart 33 seconds into college Basketball game

Teenage basketball sensation Zion Williamson was injured 33 seconds after tip off when his Nike trainer fell apart at his feet.

The 18-year-old, who is widely tipped to be the No.1 NBA draft pick come June, hurt his knee when his left foot burst through the sole of his shoe.

LA Lakers star LeBron James said in a tweet that the teen sensation's foot literally ‘blew through his shoe’ following the incident which left manufactures Nike red-faced.

"We are obviously concerned and want to wish Zion a speedy recovery,” a statement from Nike read.

"The quality and performance of our products are of utmost importance. While this is an isolated occurrence, we are working to identify the issue."

Nike are the exclusive suppliers to Williamson’s Duke University team.

Former US President Barack Obama, who was in the crowd for the game, offered some words of encouragement for the teenager.

“Zion Williamson seems like an outstanding young man as well as an outstanding basketball player,” he tweeted. “Wishing his a speedy recovery."
