ZZ Top legend Dusty Hill's trove of rock memorabilia heading to auction

A trove of memorabilia belonging to ZZ Top legend Dusty Hill is heading to auction.

Julien's Auctions is set to host an exclusive event celebrating the legendary bassist's illustrious career from 7 December to 9 December in Dusty's hometown of Dallas, Texas.

The auction features nearly 1,200 lots, showcasing Dusty's unique instruments, custom western-style stage attire, gear, creative documents, signature items like cowboy hats, boots, buckles, memorabilia, and more. These items are sourced directly from Dusty's personal collection. A portion of the proceeds from the auction will benefit MusiCares, a charitable organisation dedicated to supporting individuals in the music community.

"Dusty treasured all of the items in this auction and it means so much to me that the fans, who he loved, will have an opportunity to own something from his personal collection. He would be so happy to know that this auction will benefit other musicians in need through the efforts of MusiCares," said 'Chuck' Hill, Dusty's wife.

The standout piece in the auction is Hill's fur bass guitar, famously featured in ZZ Top's Legs music video (estimated at $80,000-$120,000) (£67,000-£99,000).

An exhibition featuring the memorabilia opened at The Museum of Style Icons at The Newbridge Silverware Visitor's Centre in Newbridge, County Kildare, Ireland on 24 October 2023.
