Danny Mac is the latest Strictly star to turn from straight drama (Hollyoaks for 4 years prior to Strictly) to musical theatre, being snapped up for the lead role of Sam in new musical Sleepless in Seattle, based on the Tom Hanks film. Queen of all, Alesha Dixon was a former member of R&B girl band Mis-Teeq when she debuted on Series 5 in 2007. With a faltering solo career and a relationship breakdown to contend with, her bubbly personality and magical partnership with pro partner Matthew Cutler won over both public and judges as much as her dancing skills.
It was the youth club drama with the breathlessly funky theme tune, run by a man with bristling handlebar moustache that wouldn’t have looked out of place on Doctor Watson. There were blindings, teenage pregnancies, a brain tumour, drug addiction, homelessness, and a bitter rivalry with the youth clubs of Denton Burn and Jesmond Grange, all set in the frame of a suburb of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne (though it was actually filmed in Benwell, not Byker). Axed in 2006, a wealth of talent was spawned from the show (and even pop bands like PJ & Duncan, Byker Groove and Point Break), but where are they all now?
