Tim Westwood report to be delivered by the BBC in two weeks

A report on the complaints made against former Radio 1 DJ Tim Westwood will be delivered in the next two weeks.

Tim Davie, the director-general of the broadcaster confirmed that an internal audit is currently being undertaken and will report to the BBC board’s senior independent director, Sir Nicholas Serota.

Westwood, who worked for the BBC for over 20 years before moving to Capital Xtra, was accused by several women of sexual misconduct.

The hip-hop DJ has strongly denied all accusations.

The BBC initially said they had never received any complaints about Westwood's behaviour while employed by the organisation but it was later revealed that six complaints had been made against the DJ.

One of the complaints was forwarded to the police.

Speaking as the BBC unveiled its annual report, Davie said: “With regards to Tim Westwood, we are at the moment going through a full deep dive. What we have done essentially is we did an initial round of analysis of HR files, which didn’t show something, that was why I made that statement which was my understanding at that time."

In the aftermath of the accusations going public, Davie originally said there was "no evidence of complaints".

Davie also said at the annual meeting: "I did make very clear that I wanted to dig deeper and ask people to bring something… We take this very seriously. I want to ensure that everyone who has got anything to bring which relates to the BBC or the time spent at the BBC we look at, fully investigate. We have (an) internal audit separate to myself working to the senior independent director Nick Serota going through now, responding to anything that is coming into us.”

He stressed that he wanted to "flush out" all of the information from when Westwood worked for the BBC.

In a statement made after the allegations came out, Westwood denied any wrongdoing: “In a career that has spanned 40 years, there have never been any complaints made against him officially or unofficially. Tim Westwood strongly rejects all allegations of wrongdoing.”

As well as his work on hip-hop radio, Westwood was also known for hosting the UK edition of Pimp My Ride.
