10 Artists who were accused of stealing music

Plagiarism is a bit of a taboo subject within the music industry. Some say it is unavoidable since there are only so many notes on a piano and chord shapes on a guitar. But others will swear blind that using a riff, melody, or tone of another artist’s song is stealing, ripping, robbing and thiefing and is unequivocally wrong. Either way, it can take years and even decades for a jury to decide who is right and so many warring musicians settle out of court. Take a look at these big name artists whose names of have been dragged through the dirt after they were accused of stealing music. The writing duo won a copyright infringement case for their 1999 hit, which features flute notes sampled from an Egyptian composer. It was their first major single, and the composer’s heir tried to pursue a claim for ownership of the track but US District Judge Christian Snyder dismissed his case. Baligh Hamdi’s 1957 song ‘Khosara Khosara’ is repeated throughout ‘Big Pimpin’ and the case took amost a decade to be settled. According to Forbes, the family are seeking $20million. (Photo: Getty Images)

Ed Sheeran Offended Adele At A Private Dinner After Mocking Her Flip-Phone

In case you had forgotten, at the end of last year Ed Sheeran announced that he will be taking a break from life and it was time for him to shy away from the public eye for a bit. Following the release of Adele’s huge comeback single ‘Hello’, the Internet made countless memes about the fact that the mum-of-one was still using a flip-phone in the music video, and when Ed mentioned that he’d bought an old Motorola flip she thought that he was making a dig at her. Oops, here’s hoping that Adele saw the funny side eventually because, to be honest, who could ever stay mad at Ed?

Remember in Friends when Joey Tribianni officiated Monica Geller and Chandler Bing’s wedding and it was all-round emotional stuff? Well, in today’s example of life imitating art, it has been reported that the actress who played Monica, Courteney Cox, has been left inspired by those scenes as she apparently asked bezzie mate, Ed Sheeran, to perform the service when she ties the knot to Snow Patrol fiance, Johnny McDaid. "He had already agreed to perform a couple of ballads after they exchange vows, so it seemed logical to him that he should get them hitched too.” Cor, before we know it Ed is also going to have signed up to being wedding caterer, photographer, and ‘eck, why not throw in Maid Of Honour too?

Ed Sheeran’s Only Gone And Landed Himself A Proper Acting Role

Fresh from a cameo on Home and Away and an appearance on NBC’s ‘Undateable’ (which he’s clearly not, in our eyes), Ed Sheeran’s gone and landed himself an actual, real-life acting role. Congratulations, Eddy! Making the leap from cameos to an ACTUAL, proper, super duper role, the 24-year-old will be playing Sir Cormac in the gory medieval drama, which has been created by Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter. According to The Hollywood Reporter, his character will be “an ambitious and deadly protégé of a high-ranking church elder.” The show itself is being billed as a “blood-soaked medieval epic that tells the story of a 14th century warrior whose life is forever changed when a divine messenger beseeches him to lay down his sword and lead the life of a journeyman executioner.” Copyright Okay, we’ll be honest here. The singer, who recorded a cover of Foy Vance’s ‘Make It Rain’ for the season finale of Sons of Anarchy, actually teased the role earlier this year.
