Massive congratulations to EastEnders’ actress Lacey Turner, who has got engaged!
Lacey Turner previously ran the show but now that she’s preoccupied with causing drama in Albert Square, reprising her role as Stacey in EastEnders, former Coronation Street actress Michelle Keegan has taken over the role of the “2 Section” medic in season two. When I first heard the casting news I felt uneasy - Lacey Turner did such a fantastic job in the first series, alongside Iwan Rheon, that I couldn’t imagine a new cast member bringing the same heart and emotional depth to the show. Aside from the leading lady, some other things have changed going into series two - the setting has switched from Afghanistan to Kenya and things are more dangerous than ever, as we immediately discover that Corporal Georgie Lane’s (Michelle Keegan) six week humanitarian tour is taking her to a place where there is plenty of unrest and armed enemies at every corner.
Martin Fowler may have only JUST got married to Stacey but, as we know, there aren’t generally too many happy endings in Walford.
We couldn’t be happier that the wonderful Lacey Turner walked away with THREE gongs from last night’s British Soap Awards.
Ever since Stacey Branning discovered that her dad had a secret family, we’ve been waiting to meet The Other Woman. Stace’s dad, Brian, had been living a double life, with a wife and kids up north, as well as Jean, Stacey and Sean in London. Viewers know that Kyle, who is transgender, has a fractious relationship with his family, who couldn’t deal with his transition.
EastEnders fans had to endure an emotional roller-coaster last night, with the surprise re-introduction of Ryan Malloy to the E20 postcode. Yes, one of Walford’s Top 5 fittest men ever returned to Walford amidst dramatic scenes which saw Stacey Branning – the mother of his daughter, Lily – sectioned after struggling to deal with the effects of postpartum psychosis. Regular viewers will know that Ryan hasn’t seen Lily since she was a baby (well, apart from that one time when he was on screen in 2014 watching her from afar), but after receiving a call from his half-sister Whitney Dean, he rushed to be by his daughter’s side.
In case you’ve missed the last few episodes, Stacey has been suffering from postpartum psychosis following the birth of her son Arthur on Christmas Eve, with the illness seeing a sudden onset of mental health symptoms. The condition has left Stacey, who also suffers from bipolar disorder, convinced that her child is the son of God, and last night’s episode saw her standing on the roof of the Queen Vic pub in a bid to get closer to God. The panic-stricken new mum was seen babbling to boyfriend Martin Fowler about how she needed to see the stars and that she was protecting Arthur from “the demons” before he eventually managed to coax Stacey off the roof and back home.
Because this is Albert Square, and in Albert Square drama never sleeps. With Stacey Branning struggling more than ever with her bipolar disorder following the birth of her son, Arthur, she can’t quite come to terms with the fact that Martin Fowler isn’t the baby’s dad. When her cousin Kat Moon worked out the big secret during last night’s episode, she warned Stacey that she should tell the truth as she remembered covering up the fact that she is Zoe Slater’s mum for years.
