Catch of the day: Huge shark snaps fish away from angler

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water…

An amateur angler thought she had her very first catch - that is until a huge six-foot shark snapped it away.

Sarah Brame, 20, is caught on tape reeling in a fish during a family fishing trip near Myrtle Beach, off the South Carolina coast, when a Bull shark suddenly leaps from the water and nabs the tasty morsel.

Just after the shark strikes pair shout wildly, with Miss Brame exclaiming: “It’s a big a** shark!”
Footage of the incident has been viewed more than 1.5 million times online, with Miss Brame and fiancé William Moore becoming instant internet stars.

"I was actually kind of scared because I saw it jump and actually thought it could get me," said Miss Brame told US TV station WPDE. "Because the tide was all the way up, and it was probably three feet below me. “It was crazy, there was no evidence anywhere that he was lurking in the water.”

Despite the shock, the family carried on fishing that day, although the objective became finding the shark. After using a red drum fish as bait, they managed to hook in the predator, but they eventually lost it again in the resulting tussle.

"We needed a bigger boat and a bigger net," said Sarah Brame’s stepfather Van Hughes. "I just wanted to touch it. Put my hands on it and let it go."
