Flood Risk As Heavy Rain To Hit Parts Of UK

Severe weather warnings have been issued for parts of England and Wales as the mild, dry conditions give way to heavy rain and wind.

The Met Office said people in Northern Ireland, west Wales and southwest England, should "be aware".

The weather service's website said: "Periods of heavy rain, accompanied at times by strong winds, will affect parts of western Britain during Monday.

"The public should be aware that quantities of rain may be sufficient in a few places to disrupt travel and give rise to localised flooding.

"In Northern Ireland the heaviest rain is expected to arrive later in the day."

Cornwall and Pembrokeshire have also been told to "be prepared" for a chance of flooding.

Forecasters said some downpours could bring over 100mm of rain, although many regions are more likely to see around 30-60mm.

The Met Office website said strong winds of 50mph may cause leaves to block drains, increasing the likelihood of flooding.

The rain is expected to move further north to Scotland on Tuesday.
